    hey,

i have a load of photos that i found on my hard drive that were taken from my brother's old kodak digital camera.

but when i try to open them in windows picture and fax viewer it says

    "No preview available"

when i try to open them in photoshop i get this error.

could not open *Filepath/abc.jpg because the file is locked. use the properties in the windows explorer to unlock this file.

i can't find this option to unlock the pictures when i right click them and select properties.

Hum, have you disabled 'Simple File Sharing' in explorers options?
Should reveal the NTFS permissions tab.
Although it's possible that there's more to it than this... if they're encrypted by some other owner

You could navigate to the folder using MSDos and then do CHMOD 777 filename.jpg

Tho I could be very wrong :D

    One more suggestion:

Right click the file -> Properties -> General

    What are the "Attributes" set?

You need to take ownership of the files.

Right click on the folder, go to properties->security->advanced->owner-> doubleclick your own username. You should also check the checkbox to apply this to subfolders and files.
You will only be able to take ownership if your account has local administrator rights.
