Cash call

Anyone ever been rung by any of the radio stations for the cash call? You know, when you have to pick a number between 1-100 and if you get the right one, you win buckets of moolah.

Mmm, I was just rung by 98FM (I was the clueless girl on about ten minutes ago for those who are listening) and I was 10 cent off.

So close, yet so far.

Anyone ever won one of these? Or have you been a penny off?

My dad got called once. He thought it was a prank, and hung up on them.

Are they broadcast live, or what?

Annoys the piss out of me. Especially when they say "Ooh... you were only ten cent off..."

You have a one in five chance of picking a number that is ten cent out.

You only have a one in a hundred chance of picking the right number and actually winning anything.

I think so yeah. Although no one has told me they heard me. Suppose they have to be since they call the winning number out at a certain time, and then ring the poor eejit within the hour.

He hung up on them? Hehe. I thought they were ringing me to offer a job or something.

Got one at work once and was pretty sure it was someone taking the piss until a mate told me they heard me on the radio. Was only 3 cents out!

That's just making me feel worse. I'm so poor. €2005 would have been sooooo helpful right now. :(

Whats the story with that thing do they just pick your number randomly or do you text your number in to be in a lottery type thing??

I forgot I'd added my number into their mobile contacts list thing. You can do it on their website. I did it months ago. Completely slipped my mind.

I got a call in work a few months back-was only one cent out. Wasn't too perturbed at first cos I never listen to 98fm and didnt even know they still did the cashcall. But the more I thought about it the more I started thinking how handy the €2005 would have been :(

I had a really strange one. Got the call from 98FM and got it wrong and waited until the next hour for it to be on the air. It wasn't but I still received the lottery tickets in the post that they send as a consolotion prize. I didn't dream the incident but as I was in work and answered with the company name I did wonder if they weren't able to play it because of free advertising??

    any ideas?

they normally ring on the half hour and broadcast it at five to the hour so you might have just missed it

I often remember comany names being mentioned... a lot of the time they'd get receptionists.
    Depend which company maybe...
"Hello FM104.. Dublins Best radio station... how can I help you?"

maybe I bored the arse off them with my total lack of interest (I was in work after all )and they rang some one else, because at 5 to the hour another persons call was played!

Eeeeeeehhhhh Ballooba, how do you have a 1 in 5 chance of being 10 cent off????

    1 in 50 perhaps??

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 35,738 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

    10 cents either side - 1 in 25?
unless the numer is 0sometihing or 9something...
I'm not much good at probability.

    nope, that's totally wrong.

'10 cents off or closer' would make sense at 1 in 50.
    possibly. I'm better at possibility.

no they are not broadcast live afaik. I worked in 96fm for a while and they are prerecorded during songs/ads.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

On a lighter note. I really want everyone to know that Neil Prenderville of 96fm Cork is a F*CKING W*NKER in real life and from the day i walked in to the day i walked out of 96fm he was a pretentious f*cking child and treated everyone like sh!t.

He once told me and a student in on work experience to "get the f*ck out" when we were in the production room (beside the studio...soundproofed...and neither of us were talking...we were just sitting and listening)

How do you add your number to their contacts list?

    It's here http://www.98fm.ie/Newsite/GENERAL/cashcall/cashcall.asp

98 are the only station that do the cash call these days... The rest of them think it's pretty 20th century.

The call is recorded anytime during the hour once the DJ has read out the amount of cent. That's why the phone they ring never rings out or is off or engaged and that's why you don't get some scobe saying "ah jaysus Anto will you stop f**kin ringing my phone pretending to be 98FM" etc etc...
