Rights of Pay at Work

    I have been working in a certain premises for nigh on two years now.
    The premises has two companies working within it; a unionised one and a non unionised one.
    I work for the non-unionised one and typically we do a hell of alot more work than the other.

    Just recently the other company got another payrise which now sees them on approximately 1.5 times our pay per hour.
    I'm just wondering do we have any rights to a pay rise given that we're just part-time workers working in a cut-throat industry (the service industry)?

    I would doubt it hugely but still it would be nice if we did!
    The place opened about two and a half years ago and rates of pay have not changed since.

    The company I work for are very tight-fisted but even a gesture of goodwill would be appreciated at this stage by its disgruntled staff.

    Any opinions?

    Most companies are not interested in being nice, but in reducing their costs and maximising their profits. I think a general trend these days is not bothering to retain staff as they know they can replace them easily enough. Perhaps with some non irish workers. In short why would they pay you guys more if they don't have to?

    Either try to switched to the unionised job, or move on to somewhere where the pay is better.
