    I've used Mandrivia (Mandrake) Linux for years and always found it quite good, especially when I was a newbie at Linux. I think Gentoo is currently the prefered newbie friendly distro of choice though.

    Get yourself a decent book like O'Reilly Linux in a Nutshell to help explain the commands, and how everything works. Linux for Dummies might also be helpfull, but I don't have that.

    Edit: Woh, slow typing today.
