    Hi all,

My Netopia box has a wireless light on but when I check in my network connections it doesn't show up?? I don't want this on but I just bought himself a laptop, and whilst sneakilly trying to set it up for him today it picked up an "unsecured wireless internet connection". Can anyone help me out here? Is it on or not?? And please be gentle with me - I'm a total novice with these things.... Thanks in advance

    oO
What model is the "Netopia box"?
What was the SSID ('Name') of the "unsecured wireless internet connection" that was detected? Are you sure that this is not yours?
Have you used the Installation CD and manual that came with the Netopia box?

    Hi Karoma,

The Netopia box number is: 3347W
The laptop is calling the connection 7651 3121.

I bought a Netopia 3-D reach USB adaptor from eircom. I put the disc in but didn't finish the set-up. When I check in my networks section it's not there. I don't want it on but am now concerned that it is and that it is not secured. The wireless link light is on on the box....

..so...you don't want the Internet connection available,eh? Unplug the router. End of problem.
The network connection should be visible via: Start Menu -> Control Panel (Switch to classic view)-> Network Connection -> Right-click on the Wireless network card -> View available networks. (IF the router is announcing its presence to the world-it'll show up. If it's not shouting about it-you'll have to go through the setup procedure.)
When you are ready to use it,just follow the instructions as per manual+CD.
