i think i may have a virus that changes my homepage to the default but norton cant detect it.
the other day it changed back to the default 'dell.com' and wouldn't change back to my choice 'google.com' for me so i tried to clean boot - didnt work - tried going into the registry and managed to change the default page to google.com but it wont let me change the start page in the registry and it continues to show dell.com as the home page.

anyone seen this before or can anyone throw me a bone im all out of ideas, thanks.

    Is it a dell machine?
If so it seems like its just something that dell have done to the os or some piece of software to keep it returning to that page.
Unstall anything to do with dell and also run some sort of spyware program on the system.

first time i've heard of a dell machine not allowing you to change the homepage.

I'm guessing something else is causing this problem.

Have you any anti spyware installed? If y ou do is one of them set to change the homepage to dell.com everytime you restart?

Sounds like some kind of spyware/browser hijacker, though most would redirect to other sites.

Download ad-aware and spybot search and destroy and do a full system scan.

maybe use hijack this to delete the entry for dell.com

sorry lads im not entirely sure what ye are talking about
is the adware software causing it or it will fix it
i have one spyware/adware remover with some hijacjing function is it causing the problem or it will fix it?

sometimes some ad/spy ware progs will set ur homepage back to its original value if it changes (Microsoft's Anti Spyware does this). so this might be one cause.

The other cause is that a spy/ad ware prog is changing the homepage to dell.com

download spybot search and destroy and ad aware and that will remove any spyware. Then see what happens.

God invented Firefox for a reason.

It has an inconspicuous (sp?) google search bar continously in the top right hand. You can also open up multiple web pages within the one browser. It's a thing of beauty.

    So download Firefox. Nuff said.
