I like the look of the ford Tanus, the fastback version, 70's, the one basd on the Cortina. What type of money do they do for.

The only place you'd find these is on the continent, and they are quite sought after there, especially the higher spec XL or GXL Coupe versions.
To find a decent one in the first place will be the biggest worry.

A quick scan through the private adds here came up with one 1972 GXL V6 model, but it has been through the motions with a lot of stuff replaced and worked on. Could be an ideal car to tinker at until it is just right for what you are looking for, or it could be a total basket case, I don;t know.

Owner is looking for 1,750 euro's

Thanks Paul, that's the model alright. That seems like a reasonable price compared to the average yank, which is were my interest has been. Is there a big market in the netherlands for them, would they pop up often for sale.

It's a very reasonable price, but the condition would worry me slightly tbh. (actually it would worry me a lot !!!)

There's a huge market here in holland, but the TC1 Taunus Coupe is pretty rare strangely enough, and the ones that do come up are generally in a tatty, tarted up or poor condition. I would say around the 3-4k should get you a nice original car, with strong prices up to 5-6k paid for top of the line GXL's like the one in the previous post.

Believe it or not, its actually a lot easier to find earlier Taunus' like the 12m 15m, 17m and 20m's, but they'd be fifties and sixties styling that you might not be looking for.

    Paul

it is very good , does need a few minor cosmetic bits doing, but it's sound and very reliable. It's currently on offer back to a previous owner (Old Ford Parts in the UK) who has become a friend over the time I have owned it.....have given him first refusal at the price i paid for it....Paulk's prices are more or less what I'm looking for.....you are welcome to come look if you want....

From what i can see in the pics it looks to be in good shape (but can't ofcourse give a definite opinion because I haven;t physically inspected the car). Front bumper seems to have had a minor knock but as you said, that would be classed as a minor cosmetic issue. As long as the mechanics are good, and there is no major corrosion in the chassis, sills or innerwings, you could'n't go wrong too far. Make sure the interior is in good nick, because some parts are very difficult to obtain. The detailing of the car is spot on for a GXL Coupe so it would seem to be a very original example. As I said in an earlier post a lot of these cars would have been modified with spoilers, wide wheel arches and stuff, so it;s nice to see an unmolested one.

I'd say from the enthousiasm and pride that Corktina shows in his cars, I'm sure he wouldn't let himself in with a piece of junk in the first place, so that's half the battle won :)

thanks for that Paul! Im not into Concours cars and my cars tend to work hard for a living...The Taunus is however all original as far as I can judge and is sound in body and heart...i wouldnt hesitate to get in it right now and drive the 200km to Dublin....Incidentally, she was French originally....

i have to disagre about buying piles of junk though, i have had my fingers burnt a couple of times I must admit, but usually because ive bought through ebay or an intermediatory ......having said that, i bought the Taunus and my south african mk4 cortina from ebay, so it is worth taking a chance sometimes....

ps bumper getting a knock is reason the guy sold it, he had it parked in the street and didnt want it getting continually hit.Have a new back bumper for it, but not got a front one yet....(or is it the other way round, i forget)

Thanks for the offer of a look Corktina but it's a bit more than I'm willing to pay.I think a runner in need of work is what I'm looking for, basically to learn about restoring, I'd would prefare a cortina/ capri or a taunus would be the ultimut, gerorgous car.

thats easy to sort.....try www.buysellcortina.co.uk loads of Cortinas for sale on there always starting from just a few quid....i would know a lot of the sellers personally too.....a Mk3 the same age and basic design as te Taunus would be got for a few hundred for the lower spec models...a GXL or GT would be more but still not too far into 4 figures....

I remember seeing a portuguese taunus Mk 3 in Cork a few years ago, it was black and white in colour, kinda resembled a police car.
I also spotted a red i think taunus Mk3 saloon in Fermoy about I5 years ago on original Irish plates, red and black, I dont know where the car came from,
maybe imported by its first owner or could have been sold here new.

Looks very impressive, but would look better with black and silver plates,
and if ur lucky preferably a ZK rather than a 73 or ZV plate.
