I just got my first camera (yeah ever). Ive played around with it and googled a bit and pretty much have all the basics down. Its a Sony Cybershot P200. Basically because its an ultra compact it has limited manual settings and ISOs so i am finding it hard getting good white-balance and low light shots without warm, cool or very contrasty pictures. Especially when i use the flash which i dont like because it just too direct and harsh. Anyway i have an old version of PSP which i have used to tweak some shots ive made done with excellent results buts its quite time consuming. Is there dedicated software out there just speifically for doing stuff with photos like Gamma Correction, shadows midtone highlights, colour correction and all the rest. Something feature rich but fairly user friendly.

Ive included a photo which ive corrected for being slightly warm, overexposed, not very contrasty and not as sharp as id like. Took me an hour LOL!

for fairly low end post processing Picassa is a decent enough bit of software. It's not exactly hugely feature packed and I find myself going to photoshop now and again to make more detailed edits but it's good for doing batch editing, contrast/highlight corrections and it's a pretty decent way of keeping a catalog of your images too.

I use PSP 4 and find it ideal and quick for tweaking. Its a pity you did'nt step forwards and right a few metres for that shot.

Try to avoid power lines and lampposts, the foreground didn't add anything and because of the angle of the shot, pretty much straight on and not manipulating it as the photographer it lacked. however definite brownie points for spotting an interesting shape building, maybe side on to the building and in black and white, it could be a powerful image but well spotted as a photograph and definitely worth another take.
