why is this a personal issue for you? would you find it disturbing if a girl did have the same surname?

what kind of question is that???

    What should it matter?

where my cousins live, practically everyone is either a McKenna or a Treanor!!!!

Now, if everyone had hang-ups like you, it wouldn't leave many options to all those folks!!!!

As long as you don't have an astranged sister that you've never met or anything, you wouldn't want any nasty suprises when you brought her home to meet the parents...
Actually my friend went out with a guy who had the same surname as her and they both had brothers calleed John Murphy who were the same age as each other, so that was amusing...

Hmm... well yeah that does sound a little strange... I'd be cautious around that kind of situation too...

A mate of mine was always raving about incest and how disgusting it was and for that reason he would never go out with or even score a girl with the same second name as him (just in case)

Yep he made his own life fairly tricky, his name's Kelly!

What about people like Kim Murphy where both names could be the same ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 408 ✭✭Blondie86Star

my last names really uncommon so if i went out with someone same last name, i'd be worried!
But if I was a Smith, Murphy, Ryan etc i'd have no problem!

Exactly. If it's a rare name, it might be an idea to take a look at the family trees!

Loads of people have the last name Joyce but my mum and dad weren't married when I was born so I got 2 last names (I got Riley as well), would be a bit weird if someone had them both the same!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,648 ✭✭✭dundalk cailin

well i was with a guy (casually) who has same surname, its quite a common surname, it was funny when we were together, someone would call hey _____ and both of us would turn round cos some people call me that too, but its what everyone calls him by..

anyway i dont c a prob, i know we're def not related, as i said, if your surname's quite common, then its a possibility to meet somone with the same..it'd b terrible to mess up something potentially great over something as silly as a surname!!

    You could risk in-breeding.. :p
But then again, the Irish are pretty much in-bred, aren't they..

Sorry, that was a joke! :D

i dunno... but cant see that problem ever arising for me... my family well extended seem to be the only ones with my name!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 162 ✭✭miss_gonzo

i dunno, that would be odd, but i guess it means nothing

but this would never happen to me, if anyone had my last name then they would most def. be related to me.

my sister has two babies with a man of the same second name so i can gladly say that the kids arnt wearing dungarees, chewing hay and playing a banjo!

i thought it was strange at first(when i was 9!)but its all good!

they re engaged now but the only problem is my sister wants to keep her maiden name!

lol.. no, I meant that the woman's maiden name was the same last name as the man that she married. so she never had to change her last name ;)
