    Hi y'all,

A priest cousin of mine wrote a Irish History book a while ago (about 400 pages long). He did the whole thing in MS Word and got me to lay it out for him then i.e. add all his graphics and fix up all the pages. That is all done and the publishers printed the prototype of the book. Now he needs me to add an index to the end of the book. I have never done this type of thing before. Can anyone give me any advice on how to go about this please? I have read that a list of words is made, so I got him to do that.

    Thanks for any help/advice.

mmm, you should be doing that in quark express or indesign. MS Word wouldn't really be designed for that.

Having said that maybe it can. :) I don't know though.

You'd have to "mark" (ALT+SHIFT+X) the relevant words.
Then, to create the Index -move to the last page (Insert a new one) and Insert -> Reference -> Index and Tables.

This is from 1 minutes worth of messing about with Word2003 + glancing at the Help file. The result was ugleh.. I hope this helps you get started, but really you should read the Help file.
