    Hey,

I recently purchased a few DVD's and wanted to my backups of them, but I think they are copyright protected ;/. I know there has been a few threads as of late in here about this but I cant seem to find them, and when I search Google it comes up with Archive'd posts?

Would Nero or DVDShrink do the job in this case? Or would I be looking for someother type of software to do the job?

    Thanks :)

I personally use CloneDVD which can squeeze a DVD-9 disc down to fit onto a DVD-5 disc with no visible quality loss. Unfortunately it does not allow you to copy protected discs - so that's where a nice little program called AnyDVD comes in handy - it runs in the system tray and cracks the DVD on the fly! Very nice program.
So basically, where CloneDVD would give you a message about not copying protected discs - it'll just think the disc isn't copy protected! :)

    MiCr0 edit - snip

    Hope this helps,
    Digi.

    DVD Shrink is perfect.

I dont think you should be recommending downloading copyrighted software with Bittorrent to break copyright protection on DVDs. The mods might get awfully confused. :)

DVD Decrypter is good to rip, DVDShrink is good to compress, and Nero is good to burn. :)

So I can use just DVDShrink to copy them? :D

    DVDshrink is the handiest.

In re-author mode you can get rid of the trailers, subtitles, languages and other info - and be left with just the "movie" - nothing else.
It makes for better copies of "owned" material.

    :)

CloneDVD does the exact same thing!

Get yourself CloneDVD and AnyDVD (because AnyDVD removed the copy protection, so without it CloneDVD can't do much) www.slysoft.com :)

How do you actually do this? Whenever I click reauthor in dvd shrink it just brings up a new window.

On the right will be a list of all files within the dvd.
trailers, warnings etc firts then the movie and then extra's like director commentary etc

Grab the movie (usually centre item) and move to left screen.
then there are fast forward /play/rewind buttons along side two blank screens

here you can get rid of the very start of the movie - not worth it
or get rid of the credits at the end - if you want.

its here that you can grab a particular sceen if you like - I have a compliation of all the best bits from movies - when I have 4.7gb of them I will make a compliation violence dvd for post-pub viewing.

go into preferences though and put the languange to english and get rid of subtitles.
this will just make the dvd copy better

    hope this helps

Btw, all of these programs can be found on most popular torrent sites if you're a bit skint! ;)

    One week ban.

HEHE. The rule is: If you own the dvd, discussing backup of it is ok with us (group decision). Blatantly robbing stuff via bittorrent isn't ok though. I'm pretty sure the charter thread reflects as much.

I use regionfree+decss, does the same thing as anydvd, runs in the bacround allowing you to run any region and backup copyright stuff.

Folks a quick question. When Im backing up my Dvds I have a folder with the Dvd name on it, inside this i have a video ts and audio ts folder and inside the video ts folder i have all my files. I usually copy these to the HD first. My question is when i want to burn these on dvd should i copy all these folders or should i just copy the files in the video ts folders. I cant seem to get any dvd players to play the copied disks. When a Dvd player is scanning for the disk is it looking for any particular type of file?

neon_glows: Whats the difference? :p They all do the same pretty much. The only other thing im looking for in a DVD Player is the ability to have re-author mode and add menus. DVDShrink cant add menus :(

Salmon: What type of DVD Discs are you using? And what program do you use to burn? When I burn my DVD's, I just add the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder and click Backup (DVDShrink). Never in my life have I seen anything in the audio_ts folder.

Yeah! Theres Nothing in the Audio Ts Folder! I suppose you have answered my question already, I should copy over all the files in the video ts folder!

    Cheers!
