Spoiler signals on NTL Digital/RTE1?

Tonight, I was recording a documentary from NTL Digital/RTE1 via composite scart into a DVD recorder when, after 15 minutes the recorder was forced into 'pause' mode. I was only able to continue recording by switching to NTL Analogue as the source. Is RTE or NTL sending some kind of 'do not record' signal?
