Does anyone know , VRT being irrelevant were to source the cheapest right hand drives cars in europe . Presume its somewhere like Greece or Spain but don't have a clue and is there special car importers / or car brokers who specialize in this?

    Any ideas would be great.

I understand Denmark is a good place to look. They have a very high luxury tax there, so pre-tax cars (i.e re-imports) are usually quite heavily discountet.

yeah didnt think of denmark as i thought they were the most expensive along with Ireland , your probably right do , can you buy them in denmark for export without paying that tax I wonder.

Lots of (northern) Germans have done so in the past. There are quite a few re-import companies that specialised on this stuff. Not sure whether it still works, because the same EU directive that is supposed to get rid of our VRT (and the Danish luxury tax) also states that no more special discounts can be given.
It only works on new vehicles that have not been registered yet. Once the plates are on ..the tax is as well (same as here really ...remeber the days when lots of UK and NI people used to buy their brand new cars in Ireland an get them out on ZZ plates?)

Can someone tell me how the Government are getting away with the VRT?
Isnt it illegal under EU legislation?

What I was told about VRT is that it's illegal to add it to a car coming in from another country in Europe, the same as VAT. Not too sure how true it is, I'm sure someone will point out if it's wrong.

Believe it or not Ireland is one of the cheapest, if not THE cheapest place for someone to buy a car - before VRT is added.
