Drinks of the World

Here are the beers of the world that I have, so far, tasted. I'll add the other types of beverage later and I'm leaving out Heinekin etc as they're pretty much domestic as are all EU countries. Unless it's something unusual.

I'm remember drinking a lot more than what's on the list but these I know I drank after a bit of googling. Please note I'm not the worlds greatest beer drinker as I enjoy wine as much as beer and have been known to drink the occasional spirit too.

    Beer
    • Bintang - Indonesia :v:
    • Bali Hai - Indonesia (Bali)
    • Tiger Beer - Singapore (yeah I know but its brewed there)
    • Singha Beer - Thailand
    • Chang - Thailand :v:
    • Victoria Bitter - Austrailia
    • Melbourne Bitter - Austrailia :v:
    • Coopers Red - Austrailia
    • Speights - New Zealand
    • Quilmes - Argentina :v: :v:
    • Cristal - Chile :v:
    • Austral - Chile :v:
    • Ducal - Bolivia
    • Sureña - Bolivia
    • Cusquena - Peru
    • Brahma - Brazil
    • Skol - Brazil (although I think it's actually Spanish)
    • Kingfisher - India
    • Golden Eagle - India
    • ??? aka something in Urdu - Pakistan (We had to get a license to buy and drink it. Average at best)
    • Efes Pilsen - Turkey :v:
    • Efes Dark (urgh) - Turkey

Beer I drank lots off are marked with the guzzle smiley (pacman) - this is due to preference and/or the amount of time/alcohol I spent drinking in that particular country.

    Oh Yes...

    The Rules

To qualify for the list you must have been in the country of origin when drinking the particular beverage.

Unfortunately I'm not nearly as well travelled as yourself. I recently started collecting one (empty) bottle of the more interesting beers I've drank. Eventually I'll either put them on a shelf at home, or just go to the bottle bank.

90% of these I drank in the comfort of my own home, so they wouldn't qualify for this list.

btw, I can understand your leaving out Heineken and the like, but to dismiss all other EU countries as "pretty much domestic" is a bit severe.

Meh, not really. I can buy beers from most of not all EU countries in the off licenses around my neighbourhood.

I can't remember the names of local drinks I drink in other countries very much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭Civilian_Target

    OK - here's what I can remember..
    Icons should be self expanatory!
    • Ckoπcko :v:
    • Гopko
    • ДaЪ :v:
    • MB Pils
    • Beogradsko :) :v:
    • Lav
    • Jelen
    • Ramstein Dunkelweisse :)
    • Becks (No really, try Becks in Bremen, it is a different drink) :) :v:
    • Dogfishhead
    • Angry Old Bastard
    • Brooklyn Pale
    • Alfa
    • Kenbach :) :v:
    • Original Sin
    • Anchor

of course, thats only the short list of ones I can remember when I was sufficiently sober to remember the name of the beer, which was tricky, particularly if its in a foreign language. Many American, German, Italian and Balkan beers have gone unnamed....

Well then how about ones you can't!
    Wieselburger (Austria)
    Karlovacko (Croatia)
Hirter Morschl (Austria) - this is a nice one - I've only ever seen it once - it's a dark sweet beer
Lasko Pivo (Slovenia - but I had it in Croatia)
    Steigl (Austria)
    Eggenberg (Austria)

..there's obviously more austrian beers but they're the better ones imo.

Lasko! How could I have forgotten about that! Its quite nice, but actually suprisingly heavy. And actually, its just called Lasko, pivo is Slovenian for beer...

    Like Heather Ale, from Scotland?
Or Hemp Beer (gah, can't remember the producer's name) from Switzerland?
    ...
    ummm
    ...
    Spendrupps Christmas beer, from IKEA!!!

Err...no wait...that last one doesn't count as having been in Sweden.

I'm just no good at this game :(

Kaiser is muck, as is Zipfer.
Never heard of Bittburger but Ottokringer is not bad.
Zwickl beer is nice too as are Bock beers (special beers, usually only seen around christmas. They're a lot stronger than normal beers, about 8% or so)

I found Kaiser to be very tasty indeed, I distinctly remember having seconds, and thirds... and I would consider myself to have a reasonable experience of beer tasting!

You're entitled to your opinion though, it'd be nice to back it up...

You guys should try Castle Lager, South African beer :D. It won No1 Beer in the world a few years ago, not sure if it still holds the crown. If you ever go to the Spur in Liffey valley that sell it there (another South African hallmark i might add :D)

Short of passing around samples to everyone how do you propose I do this? :D
    Of course it's only opinion.

Drank it in both Slovenia and Croatia, but Croatians insisted it was their beer. Was I the victim of a wind-up?

Eki, beer from the Basque region, nice and light.

Yes - if says it's made in Slovenia on the side of the bottle (although not a lot of help unless you can find someone who knows what Slovenia is in Slovenian :) )

I'm sure the Croatians have taken to it just nicely - I never tasted any Croatian beers so I'm going to leap to the assumption that they're mostly crap :D
