I'm looking for advice on choosing a printer. I would prolly be printing a fair bit of black and white but i'd also need to print color and maybe the very occasional photo. I dont want to break the bank but I want something that I can make use of. I was thinking of popping into a PC World on the way home from work so if anyone has any suggestions please pass them on.

Suggestion1: Epson Stylus Photo R200 - €99.99. Prints direct to cd/dvds, 6 ink tanks and Up to 5760 x 1440 dpi print resolution.

    Cheers.

Yeah, go with the Epson or check out the Canon iP range of printers.

I use the Rx420.Its around 150€ and its the best printer i ever had.Ink for it is around 1€ a cart for www.svp.co.uk.Its a 3-1 printer and it prints great photos. It cant print cd's though but it had a mmc reader and you dont need a pc to work it as it has all the funtions and a small display on the top of it.

    Ps:Its the Epson Rx420!

I'm hunting for a printer too, and like you I need only black and white printing mostly, I've read that Epsons when printing in B&W use all 6 tanks. So beware,

biofreak has suggested this Epson printer,
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/electronics/B0002F2KVK/customer-reviews/ref=ase_techboardsnet-21/ref=cm_cr_dp_2_1/026-0188826-3629223

I think it uses 2 cartridges, bw and colour, but I don't know if it's using from colour to print b&w prints?

And cartridges cost really low like 5 pounds

But, I don't know about it's quality and durability since it's an older model, HP has Deskjet 3845, small prints well, but cartridges cost a bit more like 15 pounds

If, epson drinks ink like I've read in many review, then wouldn't it be more cost effective to go for Deskjet?

Buy a laser. One you get one you will realise what an utter waste of time inkjet printers are. If you need colour printer, it is worth having a cheapo inkjet in reserve, but use the laser for all the normal stuff. I get about 5k+ pages out of my HP laserjet for a €90 toner, and it would cost less if I used refilled toner. My Deskjet by comparison relieves me of about €70 for 2 new cartridges are they are gone in no time.

If you need to print the occasional photo it is as easy (and cheaper and better) to take it to a lab.
