transfering a number to someone else?

My dad just bought a new phone from 3. He already has a vodafone RTG phone which he would like to transfer the number too. Problem is I gave him the RTG phone ages ago and it is registered in my name. Can he go ahead and port the number, or do I become involved at all in this? Thanks 007
