composite is like a audio connection, its a phono type of connection, S-video looks like a PS2 connection but a little difference, it has different amount of pins.

Ah ok, composite is red and white leads? S-Video is the one like a monitor connection? I thought that was RGB conenction?

Composite is yellow for video, red and white are audio left and right (can't remember which is which).
RGB (component video) offers the best quality if available. S-Video is a step below that, and composite another step below that again.

if all else fails, you could always just use a DVD recorder to tape whatever you want, then just do your *cough* standard DVD ripping on your computer. :D

It doesn't have video in, so you can't record using just the laptop as is.
    S-video output

I'd need a video in card?
