I have a Hp Pavillion zt3120 ea just over a year old and since yesterday the mouse pad just switches on and off when it feels like it, any ideas?

It's called a touch pad, by the way. Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

    Ach, just me being pedantic.
The main thing is to see if it's a hardware or software issue. I get the feeling that it's something hardware which is going to need a factory fix.
Try taking out the software element as much as you can by starting the computer in safe mode and see what happens.
