    hey folks,

i'm starting out a project on the use of the above and i'd appreciate any input you can give. i'm looking for examples of television ads that used the sex appeal of women in them. particularly in ads for the drinks industry (both alcoholic and soft drinks). at the moment, i've got things like the sprite zero carbs, strongbow, the carlsberg club full of women but am looking for a few more. thanks for any help.....

the one ad that strikes my mind straight up is that new hunky dorys ad that can be found on billboards.

i know it's not in the drinks industry but sure it's a start.

There's those barcardi ads with vinni jones and the woman.

You've got that really annoying coke ad with the woman singing her way down the street handing out bottle of coke....perhaps not sex appeal

Tia maria after dark....sexy glow in the dark make up ad

    baileys...can't really describe it

    here's something interesting

    same story i think

    or this i think

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_advertising might be useful

    www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/AlcAds/AlcResp/AlcoholFocusScotland.pdf

    http://www.aber.ac.uk/media/Students/mff9901.html from here

http://www.questia.com/search/beer-ads has a heap of papers and stuff

http://www.marininstitute.org/ is an anti alcohol think tank from calafornia

The Sprite Zero carbs is an interesting one as it's aimed at women, not men.
It may have a very hot woman in it... but it's showing that she drinks Sprite Zero carbs as she knows her great body wont be damages by a zero carb product. "Look like me by drinking Sprite... etc.."

Ads for drinks are heavily regulated here now (and vetted).. and the use of sex appeal or success with the opposite sex is slammed on.

Check www.asai.ie for more examples and for the guidelines.
Perhaps note the Heineken ad with Jennifer Aniston. It's a complete turnaround where the character rebuffs the hot woman :D
How exactly did they use sex appeal there?

By the way, Bacardi have abandoned its controversial Latin Quarter advertising and replaced it with an advert featuring not so sexy (ugly) people.
Check out the new one here
Robert Senior, managing partner at Fallon, Bacardi's new agency, explains:
"The joy of the campaign is that consumers will recognise a bit of themselves and their best evenings.".
    More on this here.
This is an excellent example of the new strategy they have to take.

It's not drinks but what about the old Surf ads with Mary McEvoy (Biddy from Glenroe). If you're not completely happy Lever Bros will give you your money back. Woof, Woof!

    rofl

Most ads use sexy women in an ironic way these days though, becuase it's hard to take such a ploy seriously.

theres the club orange ads, remember there was like this fella who walked into a shop and had to chose between club orange, club red (dunno the flavour, prob raspberry or something), and club lemon. and then he dreams he's on a gameshow and he had to pick between a blonde, red head, and some other coloured haired lady or something. you get the drift. sorry couldnt be more help.

someone said the heinekin one with jennifer anniston. great ad

I have to say I like this lads take on women in adverts,

Certainly get a laugh out of most adverts if you apply the logic

The ad for the Boss mans fragrance. The chick is standing infront of a light and then moves n stuff. Most perfume ads with a chick in it really, they're all sh1t.

On a slightly differant topic, just saw the new Dior fragrance ad,so cheesy, would suit Derek Zoolander down to the ground. "Water is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of life"....or something to that effect...

Most perfume ads are terrible actually. Like that one with Nicole Kidman - they're trying to go for some 40's screen siren vibe but it fails utterly imo.

if you wanna take it to the extreme you should check out the german playboy billboards with the tag "Pray for Rain" or something like that. you'll find the images of it on the net. its just basically a pair of breasts with the playboy logo in the middle. theres a white top over the breasts and they've used some weird type of paper so that as the billboard gets wet the white top becomes see through.

Never mind the women - what about the men? Is it because everyone in advertising is gay that every attractive man in every ad is clearly *not available to women*? Strannnnge.
