gaffel and smarch are the best players at your current table. Soonline has also had a lot of cashes.

Great I'm stuck in between them! Had a chance to get all smarch's chips earlier when I had KK. I flat called a raise of his and the board came A high. After it was checked down I figured he didn't have the ace so I value bet the end, he had QQ!

Just came 87th!!! Got back $880 or something but it's small consolation, I was feeling pretty good about it. How I went out I'm sure will draw some criticism, and I'm starting to feel like I shouldn't have made the move but I managed to justify it to myself at the time.

With blinds at 4k 8k and a 400 ante it was folded around to my sb. The bb had roughly the same amount of chips as me. I stuck it in with Q3 and he called with A7, a queen came on the flop but then the river was a big fat ace. Absolutely sick. I was playing extremely patiently til then. I kind of think it's your duty to stick it in when short stacked and it's been folded to your sb/ button, but maybe I should change my strategy. Although it was by these moves that I got most of my chips together so I can't complain too much(this was mainly on different tables tho so my image was ok). I definitely had folding equity with 50k though, and probably could have waited for a better spot. But on the other hand you're not in too bad shape even if he does call unless he has a pair or a better queen, and you've only got 3 rounds of the table, so maybe it's the right move. Who knows? I don't anyway.

Nothing wrong with your push in that spot. That tournament decends into a pushing fest towards the end anyway especially with the running ante so stealing blinds is vital. gg.

Sounds fine to me too, just unlucky to get a call, I'd say he would have folded nearly any hand without an A there, sounds like classic Harrington...

The amount of times I used to get knocked out of tournaments from the SB was incredible, trying to rob blinds.

I would have made up the big blind, and bet out in an attempt to steal, rather than the all-in move here with the Q3. If I met strong resistance, you can fold and still have adequate chips of +10BB to make another move.....especially as you are in the money now, and every place is extra dollars (big dollars)

I'm not in your league Daithio, but that's what I would have done I think.

(Daithio here) If I made up the bb here and folded I'd only have about 5 bbs left. I know what you mean though culchie, it feels like I go out that way a little too often as well.

Sorry, read the 4K as BB, not SB.

Hmmm... I think both methods have merits, but I think the push was probably right. It was a big call by Villian.

I hate the feeling of getting knocked out of tourneys when I pushed with nothing and got called, whatever about bad beats....and SB pushes were my biggest problem, always get caught.
I guess the BB is nearly expecting it, and is more liable to call a raise from the SB that anyone else.

That's true, but I had him down as a pretty decent player, so I don't think he'd call it without an ace or medium to high pair (don't think he's calling for all his chips with 22, 33 probably to 66). I don't know what the exact odds of him having one of these hands are but most of the time I should get away with it. Also if he does call with something like A7 I'm not actually in that bad shape, and including the antes I'm probably getting close enough to proper odds for this kind of matchup.

It's definitely true that people expect an all in from the sb, but I still
reckon you're more likely to get away with it here than from anywhere else because there is only one player to get through.

Yeh, I'm in agreement with you on this really, just shooting the breeze:) , I'd do the same

I just hate kicking tyres on the way home when I go out with these hands:o

Dave it doesn't really matter. A push with any 2 cards is +EV in that spot. The times he folds and the times he calls and you still win more than make up for the times you lose there. I mean he was only a slight favourite anyway.

TBH, I think this hand played itself really, due to the combination of the timing for Diathio and the BB holding the A, good push by Diathio and easy enough call from BB. Just got unlucky....

The only time I'd say there is a better way of playing it is if the BB has enough chips to call a 3xBB raise and get away from it.

In that case if he does have A7 or say a middling J9s, you can mentally go all in but just raise 50% of your 50k (3xbb) with the intention of going all in on the flop when first to act. If he misses the flop you may take it with the bet.

Losing to a high card when you had the possibility of being able to bet a flop kinda sucks. But if he had 50k too then the chips were going in from the other guy preflop anyway. 80-100k maybe not.

    Pocketfives.com

They list the top 75 players and the names they use on different site plus their past glories and usual haunts.

Funny, I expected my 65th place in Athlone would get a mention. Probably a bit slow updating their site. :D
