My cousin asked me to update her OS on her laptop from XP Home to XP Pro. Apparently she needs XP Pro so as to connect to TCD network. Easy enough I thought. Backed up her documents, downloaded all the appropriate drivers from fujitsu website and tried to install XP Pro. Took a few days to get it installed as it was having a major problem with SATA disk drivers I had. Turned out it didn't like the external floppy drive I was using. Tried another and didn't like that and finally it liked the 3rd. Plain sailing from here I thought. Nope. Installed all drivers fine. Everything in device manager looked good. Tried hitting the "wireless" key over the function keys but nothing. I have Launch Manager and Power Manager installed. I hooked the laptop up to my router with ethernet cable and downloaded all updates etc but still nothing. The other two Easy Launch buttons work but no joy on the Wireless. I have googled it for hours and there's not much in the form of answers on the fujitsu website even in the forums there. Any ideas? I've tried drivers from fujitsu and Intel websites at this stage. The laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M7440G. The wireless driver is an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG driver. The actual wireless function key was working fine in XP Home Edition. Stumped :(

I had the same issue with an Amila M Series... In the end, I'm pretty sure it was the driver/program on the original FSC disc that did the job.
(I think that I may have had to manually uninstall the Wireless NIC entry from Device Manager and then run the installation..)
It's been a while,so I cannae quite remember. IIRC, it still wasn't 100% but it worked the vast majority of the time..

Tried that already, thanks. I called Fujitsu yesterday and told them the problem. The guy just told me that they'd have to take it back to fix it so I reckon it's a problem with that series and XP Pro. Hopefully the courier arrives today. It's my cousins laptop and she needs it for college. He said 2 weeks max to fix it.

The Turnaround time stated is an estimate. The feedback I've got from FSC owners who have had to send their laptop back (Very few of them actually) said that they had it back within a week.
Hmmm. It's unusual that a manufacturer would take a laptop back for a software issue, especially an issue arising with a non-OEM OS.. known issue mayhaps? hmmm.

Was gonna make a few suggestions but bit stumped when u said FSC wanted it back, that is unusual for software issue. You should expect it back fairly soon as karoma said, they are good for aftersales. Might turn out to be a hardware issue after all.

Check the bios settings that the wireless hasn't been disabled.

I am having the same issue. I have recently had issues with my SATA hard drive and had to replace it. I have reinstalled the full software compliment using the CD Rom which came with the laptop, but my WLAN button simply refuses to work. No idea why and I'm reluctant to pay Fujitsu for the privilege of what would be a simple solution. If anyone knows any known solution, it would be much appreciated.

had the same problem reinstalled Windows XP and wlan switch not working windows said "no wireless networks in range" you have to install the power manager utility from the disk or get it from the Fujitsu website.
