9800 pro or X 5500 Ge-Force?

I was just woundering which of the two is better, I have the 9800 pro but someone is selling the 5500 here. Would it run top end games like the 9800? I don't want to buy a rubbish graphics card, thanks.

most of the FX range were a disappointment the 9800 is much better

I remember years ago a magazine article saying the Geforce FX Series were the latest in graphics technology, quoting nvidia as saying the series was far outstripping the competition and would be the card of choice for the game Stalker Oblivion Lost.

Try running Stalker Alpha or the full version when it arrives on a fx5200 :rolleyes:

The 9800 pro will absolutely slay the FX 5500 in every single thing ever.

the fx series were the first gen of the 6x00 series. Their problem was bad dx9 support, they didn't do things the Microsoft way.

They were as fast as the 9x00 series from ATI in older dx7/8 games. HL2 benchmarks swung things around back in the day.

yeah it really was Dx9 that they failed in
i had a 5950 and only got round 1060 in 3dmark05... but when it came to playing most games it was grand and the 5700/5900 where good overclockers

How would the 6200 or 6600 geforce compare to the 9800? would they be more in line or better since we are comparing the ranges.

6600 is around the same as a 9800 AFAIK. 6600GT > 9800 pro, especially for OpenGL games (Doom, Quake).

The 9800 pro was a cracker of a card in its hay-day (and that day was a relatively recent one).

I had a 9800pro about a year ago its was a great gfx card specialy with the hack to mod it into a XT

So it looks like you should be looking at a 6600GT or higher in Nvidia or one of the X800 by ATI.

I'm still working off the 9500pro which i'm happy enough with. If u can afford to change then go higher, but the 9800pro is still a decent card.

The 9800 pro struggles a little with the newer games like F.E.A.R and Quake 4 but if you turn off some of the fancy options in those games they zip along nicely on it.
