Anyone know how Shortstack did last night? I was falling asleep on my feet and had to hit the hay so I missed trhe final table. I had a pretty bad weekend. Yesterday was just depressing. Will have a rant about it in my blog later after I've consoled myself with some pizza and beer. ho hum! :(

Alright Nicky, he finished 8th. He got aces on the BB with a limper and an all in who both had him covered. Of course he called, and so did the limper with KQ. Other all in had 88. By the river the board showed 8 9 10 8 J!!!!

Well done Mike... You battled well with a below average stack for most of the tourney from what I could tell. Nice result and ultimately unlucky not to tripple up.

Nicky was sat next to me during the main event…I’ll let him tell his own story. I was card dead for most of the time. I started off initially playing only the best hands though my first two pots were taken down on bluffs. I was losing blinds and was averaging 1 hand in 9. My raises were later respected so I used that to occasionally pick up blinds but inevitably when I then did get good hands I couldn’t get action. As always seems to happen … the table had worked out who was tight and who was loose and who the sucker was and then the balance was upset by two new arrivals who didn’t seem to know the score. The first sat on my left was looser than Joan Collins’s pelvic floor muscles. He took down one pot with 2 4 [This UTG when BB raised 4X Blind] He hit trip twos to the BB AK that had hit top pair. I hadn’t played a hand for ages when I got pocket sixes in LP and limped in. Yer man with the 2 4 also limped in… and a player from the Fitz who I knew to be tight. So three of us in the pot and it comes AQ2 Fitz player bets 400 a relatively small sized bet – so I call. 24 calls. Another rag. And so three bets of 400 go into the pot again. River is another ace. Fitz player checks, I check… and I look at 24 he bets 1k – He might have the ace… but I decide to try and steal and put him to the test so I immediately reraise to 3k and he simply calls. So I think I’m beat by a queen… But he does have the ace – why he didn’t re-reraise is beyond me… But this player I believe made the money… He was certainly in the last twenty. That put me down to around 6k – a little while later I found KQ in MP and called. Flop Q62 checked around to the new player on my right hand he bets 500 I raise to 1500 – folded around to him again and he calls. Turn is another six and he says he’ll put me all in. The way he called my raise I don’t think he’s on a six… and he’s hoping I’m not. I tell him if he’s got the six good luck to him but I’m calling. He turns over Q 10. Ten comes on the river and I’m gone.

So then I play a €100 SnG and I end up short stacked after calling a small PP with over cards and losing the race. So I put my last 475 into the middle with A8 five callers. AJ3 flops. Guy on my left bets and guy on my right goes all in… the others fold. Guy on left dwells for ages and eventually calls. He turns over A2 WTF? The other guy turns over KJ – I’ve got the best hand… Until the 2 on the turn LOL. I play one more cash SnG and get knocked down to 200 chips… but build my way back up to become chip leader when it’s down to three. A deal is suggested and as my chip lead is only 2k and we’re all pretty even we each take €350.

Unlucky Len. Was disappointed I didn't get involded in more pots with you. I don't remember making any mistakes in the main event despite going out early. It was a a bad table draw really with Ken Doherty and Keith McInerney on my right and 3 other faiirly competent players at the table. There were really only 2 exploitable players at the table which was unusual because the locals are so so loose passive in Athlone. Limerick isn't a patch on those fools. Thay are just brutal.

Anyway. I won a nice pot early on when 77 flopped a set on a board with an ace on it. I'm not sure if he had a weak ace or was chasing the flush draw but it got my stack up to over 10K. Unfortunately I didn't see many cards after that. All the limping in was really annoying me and meant I was priced into playing a lot of marginal hands which inevitably hit thin air. At the first break I was back down to 7200 from the 8K starting.

My table image was probably too tight at this point so when I came back I decided I was going to have to donk it up a bit. I got Aces the first hand after the break in Mp, made a standard raise and just took the blinds. I wanted to get involved in more pots with Ken Doherty and when he limped (which is was doing a lot. Twice with Aces!!) I raised UTG+2 with 9T and only he called. Flop was TJT and a small bet from me took the pot.

With blinds 100-200 tight guy from the fitz made it 500 from MP. the button called and I called in the BB with A3 suited. The flop was 567 rainbow and I checked. Preflop raiser bet only 350 into a pot 1600 MP called and I decided to raise to 1500 confident neither player could possibly consider calling me. They both folded very quickly.

That got me up to about 10K again and I lost a smallish pot when JJ hit a crap flop. With blinds 100/200/25 I raised UTG with QQ to 700. JIm Maher from Limerick who is very passive but wouldn't call with ****e when I raise smooth calls on the button and the BB pushed for 3500. I put the BB on AK or JJ so I decided to isolate him and push for 9100. I have Jim covered by 1200. To my horror Jim calls with Aces which hold up and I'm crippled. The BB did indeed have JJ. :(

A few hands later I get an Ace one from the cutoff. I didn't even look at my other card and decided to shove for about 950. Both the blinds call me. The flop is A 2 X 3 4. I turn up A4. SB turns up A5. Ouch!

I probably should have just gone to bed for the day after that but I decided to to try a few more SnGs. My record in pokerevents SnGs up to that point was 9 ITMs from 11 and about €1250 profit. IFirst one of the day wasa €100 where I got crippled losing with AQ to KQ and I bubbled in 3 €200 SnGs. QQ V AT, JQ VJ8 and KK v A9. each one of them all in preflop. Horrible day.

Thankfully on Friday I made the final table of the €100 FO allbeit only 9th for €350. I was horrified with the way I played my final hand, trying to pull a stop and go with 33 in the SB when I should have just folded preflop. But I also won a €100 SnG and considering i had already won my ticket to the main event I could have lost a lot of money this weekend but only ended up down a couple of hundred.

I'm getting annoyed with my bad streak in the larger tournaments. If I don't cash in the Limerick Supersat on the 18th I'll be very pissed off. The Ulster Cup is in Cavan next week and I'm going to miss. It should be the best of them. Anyone going to it?

Tight guy from the Fitz was tight because he only saw 44, 66, and AJo (twice) in three hours.
    On the 567 rainbow I folded 44.
On the hand where you were knocked out I held A5 diamonds and there was two diamonds in the flop, one the K. When I filled the straight on the river I bet 900 to tell the other player to get out and to let you know.

One of my AJ hands met a flop of Q J X. When we all checked I bet when an 8 hit the turn and was called by a player holding 89. River an 8.
