just a reminder WC to use less of the hyperbole.

How do you be expected to be taken seriously? if you take what is a fairly average very windy event and hype it up in the way that you are doing...

Fair enough if we had a sub 980 traveling across Ireland or up the Irish sea...then I'd understand your hyperbole.
Indeed I wouldnt be calling it hyperbole then,I'd say fair comment.

Oh yeah and what longfield said aswell,I agree with that approach.

Earthman would you give an estimate on the windspeeds for the locations
i listed above for Monday in your opinion?

This looks abit more than an average wet and windy day to me..

    Rtavn361.gif

Anyway im just talking about a once of twice a year event nothing OTT;)

You are being full of hyperbole and unwilling to be criticised as usual.
    That speaks for itself.

I can only accept criticism when i KNOW i am wrong..

Can you not give what you think will happen tomorrow?

Oh and would you apologise to me if my predictions for tomorrow were correct?
I reckon you would find some way around it...

I'm not interested in games wc

But what I am interested in, is keeping this forum credible.

I could go back through your threads like this one and do the maths as regards how often you are hyperbolising average or normal events.
You do yourself a disservice by doing that.

But then you were never one for taking advice on board as much as you were never one to listen to criticism.
I would urge you to listen to what I am saying.Heres a quote in case you missed it from 3 posts ago on this page...

I really want you to pick out what i said that isnt factual???

This is from the Met Eireann site
Outlook for a further 24-hours until 0600 hours, Tuesday, 08-Nov-2005 : Winds backing Southerly and increasing gale- to storm-force - but later moderating and becoming mainly Southwesterly except possibly in the Irish Sea.. Heavy rain spreading Northeastwards, clearer weather following to most part

    ...
There is a SEVERE threat to Northern late Monday around 1900-2200hrs as
the sytem rapidly intesifies storm force 10 winds will approach violent storm force 11.
The Monday Evening rush hour in Dublin will be especially treacherous with
winds gusting to 75mph as residents try to make their way home.
The above is hyperbole. The whole of the north is not malin head or the north coast.
    It's misleading.
I'm fowarding this thread with your CV to the U.S dept of homeland security.
They could use you there for their press briefings :D

This is why I tend to avoid Weather (the forum not the phenomena).

The 'storm' for tomorrow evening/night looks like being about a 7 on a 10 scale of Possible Irish Conditons. Nothing more.

    Mike.

NIE, Northern Ireland Electricity have released a statement
    SEVERE WEATHER – PRECAUTIONARY ALERT

Severe storm force winds with gusts up to 80mph have been forecast for Monday. The severe weather is forecast throughout Northern Ireland and may cause damage to the electricity network, particularly in rural and coastal areas.

Hundreds of extra Northern Ireland Electricity engineers, linesmen, call handlers and administrative staff are ready to reinforce our normal capability to restore supplies, night and day, following any severe weather damage, and to provide regularly updated information to customers. The NIE Incident Management Centre at Craigavon will be fully staffed throughout the period as long as severe weather conditions persist, as will our NIE customer service centres and engineering depots.

Robin Greer, NIE's Communications Manager, said: " If there is any damage to our network from severe weather, we will already be in position to get customers back on supply as quickly as humanly possible consistent with safety, and to keep customers regularly updated and informed.

“We are particularly keen to stress our regular safety message that on no account should anyone ever approach a broken pole or electricity line.”

NIE has also reminded customers of the precautionary measures to take in the event of a power cut:
    · never approach broken lines or damaged poles, and keep children and animals away - report damage to NIE on 08457 643 643
    · turn off electric cookers, ovens, irons, etc. if electricity supply is lost
    · leave a light switched on so you know when power has been restored
    · take extra care if using candles, oil lamps or other naked flames
    · test smoke alarms with fresh batteries
    · ensure adequate ventilation if using gas heaters.

Customers should also ensure they have batteries for radios.

If customers do lose supply, they should first find out if their neighbours are also without power and check household fuses and trip switches before contacting NIE.

Robin Greer again: “We have invested heavily in our service and our systems have been thoroughly tested, but we have to recognise the reality that Northern Ireland has a widely dispersed population and therefore the sort of rural network that is vulnerable to severe conditions, whether it be snow, ice, lightning, or high winds.

I couldnt find that one on their site WC,but I found loads of others on the web.
They regularally issue the same statement mixed with a few different phrases.

Example from just 2 weeks ago
So you are expecting thousands of homes to be without supply? In the North or the Republic?I'll agree powercuts are possible in rural areas-espcially given that I live in one and if the wind blows above 50mph,I'm likely to lose it.

    jeez i'll leave then..

my input is obviously not wanted!

You'd swear i had said something really OTT.. i did nothing but state the facts..
    Save us the melodrama please.

Please Earthman do not speak to me like that..

Why? It's the truth isn't it.
Any hint of criticism or helpfull suggestions and you go off in a hissy fit.
This is not a playground.I'm suggesting untill I'm blue in the face that you tone down the hyperbole that you constantly use.

I know you're only 16 but honestly don't go down this road any further or this thread in its entirety will end up elsewhere.

Now back on topic please- minus the hyperbole and melodrama.

It's going to get very very windy tomorrow, branches of trees may break off. Some trees may fall disrupting power supplies and theres going to be more heavy rain.

Nope you overused hyperbole in that thread.
It's something you are going to have to learn to use more sparingly.

Off topic stuff split to here.
