As the title says, whats the minimum graphics card for BF2? It says the "GeForce 6800" on the readme file as the min option, but I've seen people talk of using a GeForce 6600, thus I'm wondering: whats the cheapest card I can buy which has the 1.4 shader? My budget is not great, and so I'm looking for a cheap option.

Please notice the cheap bit. I say this, as I don't want some smeg coming on telling me to buy a €368 256MB Geforce 6800GT cos it "roxors", and that you can play on "all things maxed out".

I am playing it with an original 9800 pro which can be picked up fairly handy second hand . As you might already know processor and ram also play a big part .

Im playing no bother on a 9600.
The 9200 with 128 megs of ram is the cheapest card that will run it.

You sure about this? I'm looking @ this card, and it falls within my budget, so I may get it.

Not sure about that card... but it is a 256. SO it may work.

Would the geforce 5500 not work battlefield?

I am using a 9800 pro also. You will pick one up for about 80 smackers me thinks...

Geforce 5700 I think is the min, at least thats what I've got and its fine. I use med-low settings mostly though. . . .oh and the 2gig of ram goes a long way to help loading times :-)

The manual says that the 5700 is the lowest though some people have got the 5500 working all on LOW.

I had a 9200SE 128 and the game would not even boot with that, never mind render anything. Which is why I had to grab a 9700 Pro off eBay for pennies. Just a word to the cautious :)

    9500 series, 8500 series
9200 is inbetween these, and BF2 works on a friends 9200 mobility chipset.

It worked on my old Radeon 9000 Series(64mb), all graphics on low, but the fact is it still played.

For what it's worth, I have an NVidia Quadro FX1300 card.

It's only got 128megs of Ram, but the graphics processors in it pretty much rock. (It's a pro-3d design card).

Despite it not being listed as a compatible card, I can run Battlefield on high-res, with textures and shadows on medium, full anti-aliasing and filters, etc.
    It plays great.

And it's such a fun game too.

Turbot, I'm testing a Quadro FX1100 in BF2 but cant get it to work. I get the BF2 logo but then it blinks back to the desktop. Did you have to do anything special to use yours?
I have no problems running with my x800xt but I'd like to test this.

    Using the 81.95 drivers

    Other specs = P4 3.2 / 1gb pc4000

Measuring Framerate, Taking Screenshots & Recording Demo Movies

You can use the renderer.drawFps 1 command in BF2 to show your current frames per second (see Console Commands section above). However there is a utility which allows you to do this and much more: FRAPS. This free utility will display a very accurate framerate counter in the corner of the screen. However Fraps also has other handy functions, such as the ability to take screenshots in various formats and even record demo movies which you can play back in a media player outside of BF2. Give it a try as it is a great utility to have on your PC.

    Fraps sounds good, cheers ;)
