    Hey Guys,

I'm trying to format my PC, got all my important documents saved etc. and when i run your usual format c: it tells me - format cannot run because volume is being run by another process. Format may run if this volume is dismounted first. All opened handles to this volume would then be invalid. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume?

ignorantly choosing yes another sentance comes up...

cannot lock the drive volume is still in use.

please can someone help, it would be really really appreciated!

You are probably trying to format from within windows. See this article. You will have to use a boot disk downloadable from here if you haven't got one.

You must put in your Windows disc, make sure the bios is set to boot from CD, and then start your XP installation again. It will give you an option to format your harddrive.
