Paris - looking for advice

OK, I'm heading off to Paris on my own at Christmas. I've never been before and I would really appreciate any advice/tips from people who have been before.

All I've booked so far are flights (Aer Lingus to Charles de Gaulle) and I'm staying for five nights.

Recommendations on must-see sights, public transport, places to eat and drink would be welcome.

I'd especially like accomodation tips. I'm a student and I'm hoping not to spend more than €40 per night. I'm also on my own so I'm torn between a hostel or cheap hotel. Any recommendations of decent cheap digs in a safe part of town would be much appreciated!

    Heres a place ,
    http://www.3ducks.fr/
Its within walking distance of the tower ,

Its really cheap , its a hostel , and its kind of well known , its clean but basic , dont expect miracles , it has its own bar with a great atmosphere , and its very central ,
If you dont like that place then directly down the road is a nice 3 star hotel , for around 30 euros or so a night ,
To eat out , visit the trocadero area , lots of nice restaurants etc. paris is awash with good restaurants and all are cheap enough ,

Places to see , theres the Pantheon , its spectacular inside , with the big pendulum , ( it was built to prove the world was a sphere ! I think ! )

The lourve of course , the grand gallery is where all the Famous stuff ( mona lisa et al ) is but the place is huge , have a look around , there is loads of really cool stuff.

Then theres the moulin rouge , with Sacre Coure just on top of the hill , but dont hang around in this area after dark , its dodgy ,

For the more morbid , theres pierre lachase cemetary , with Oscar wilde , Jim morrison , and all that stuff , ( hey ! lots of people go for that stuff !! ) ,

Theres Opera , thats pretty cool , the Arch de triumph , walk up all the steps , there are loads , but its worth it to see the roads running off the centre ,
And watch out for the traffic around the Arch de triumph , its crazy , they drive like maniacs !!

The George pompadou centre , its crazy ,

Public transport is excellent , try and get the bus if you can , you get a better sense of where everything is with that , otherwise just use the Metro which is very easy and will get you anywhere very fast , get a pass, this is cheaper than buying individual tickets and should see you through for the 5 days.

Anyway have a good time , Paris is Cool
