Grammy award winner Kyle Jones aka Scratch – beatbox rapper with Philadelphia soul/hiphop collective The Roots – brings his mindblowing live show to Dublin for one night in the intimate confines of Ri Ra on Dame Court. Apart from his recording and touring with The Roots; Scratch received a Grammy in 1999 for his Duo performance with Erykah Badu and has since recorded tracks with a wide range of artists including Jay Z, Musiq Soulchild and Pink. This tour is to promote the European release of his debut solo album ‘Loss 4 Wordz’ in January 2006.

Beatboxing is the particular brand of rapping that consists of using one’s voice to impersonate others sound and musical instruments and Scratch is one of the World’s best, often seeming to have three voiceboxes each making a different sound but acting simuatenously within his throat. Apart from having shared the stage with Kanye West, Eminem, Jay Z, Ludacris, Usher and James Brown amongst others; his reputation for this particular skill has been further enhanced by appearances in Spike Lee’s film Bamboozled and television ads in different countries for Coca Cola, Sprite and Heineken.

The Roots are due release their new album early next year having just fulfilled something a joint childhood dream by recently signing to the hiphop legacy that is Def Jam records. This will be their first release on Russell Simond’s label and is tipped to be another classic blend of hiphop and soul that has become something of a trademark for the band.

Scratch is joined on this tour with his regular DJ Mystro who will also perform a small warm-up set. Dublin beatboxer White Noise will fly the Irish flag by opening up proceedings. Admission to this show is a mere €12.
