I have a JVC DVD recorder which I no has little to do with the computers but I need help with the disks. The recorder is compatible with DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW and DVD RAM but hidden away in the instruction manual it states that if you want to record more than 1 hour onto a disk, the disk must be version 2.0 or version 2.1 compatable.

I've never heard of disks refered to as version 1.0 or version 2.0 etc

    Can anyone help?

Sorry cant help you just yet. But I have a similar experience. Just bought a JVC DR-M10 DVD video recorder. Was advised by the store to only use JVC disks but they didnt have them. Bought some Philips disks from a different location and get 'disk error' when I put them in the machine. Despite the DVD cases stating that they are the right specification in all information except this version stuff? the manual states I should use DVD0RAM version 2.0 or 2.1 / DVD-R ver 2.0 or DVD-RW ver 1.0 or 1.1. The Philips disks do not quote versions???

    FloydFan:
Philips only support DVD+R[W] - they are the owners of the standard along with a few others - can't remember - possibly sony or whatever. As a result it costs them money to make DVD-R[W] disks (licence fee) so they don't.
Similiarly, JVC are involved in the stanard of DVD-RW, and so only produce DVD-R[W] disks/players (try google for jvc dvd+r recorder - they only reference to one I can find is one that PLAYS +r/w, doesn't mention it recording to +r/w)
    - hence what you have are Philips DVD+R[W] disks, and since JVC don't record to +rw disks, it will throw up a disc-error or something along the lines you have.

as for the version 2 etc. well thats all news to me!
