USA this Summer...

    Right.

    I'm a student.
My original plan was to get the j1 visa and go for the Summer and work.

But now I don't think that'll be worth it.

Myself and a friend are thinking of going for less than 90 days without any visa.

See I want to travel the whole place. I will be visiting New York, Canada, Washington and LA. My plan is to fly into New York and home from LA and make my way across.
The way I've to look at it is I've to get a loan anyway and a one or two thousand extra won't make that much difference really in the long run....

There's not much point in getting the j1 is there if I have no interest in working?
And if I do get hugely stuck I have friends/family who can loan me money or employ me on the sly.

So do you reckon this is a hugely foolish plan?
I don't like working anyway here during the year so I don't particularly want to have to work while I'm supposed to be on HOLIDAY!

Also how much would I need for three months? Five/six grand?
And would it be worth my while getting the j1 just in case would ye say?

    Cheers.

If your not going to work there and you're going going to leave after 90 days don't get one. The j1 is basically a work visa that allows you to work there for up to 5 months. Why not work there though? you could work for 2 or 3 months, save up the money and then travel for a month. Thats what Im doing. Or else work here and save the money. It'll save you getting a loan for it.
