make sure you set the video card to output pal seacam, that should fix the b&w

Most cards that support Tv out allow you to configure the output for each specific channel, eg your monitor and tv. This means you can configure your monitor to 1024x768 at 75Hz and have the Tv output at 800x600 at >60Hz.

I had my Radeon 8500 running through my TV for a while and I was able to configure the two outputs seperatelty through the Display properties->Displays

S-video to SCART connection will often give you monochrome. Try a s-video/composite adaptor.

well ok what about the other way round, so i display my tv onto my computer i plugged it in the..video..er in..i get confused...so my tv should be on my comp but ..do i need some sort of player ..or viewer to see whats on my tv..or am i doing this wrong...as for scart giving me monochrome..whats the point of that! it cost me £25!!

Check that the output is set to PAL. Does your TV have a svideo socket or even a svideo mode for the scart socket? I'd say your TV not having svideo support is the most likely reason you're getting black & white. How old is your TV? Most TV's in the past couple of years will support svideo even if they dont have the socket for it.

If you've tried everything else, there is a way to get a tv without svideo to display svideo. You need to short pins 3 and 4 as seen in this diagram. I've done this myself before on a friends laptop and it works a treat.

The yellow is composite, as are the red and white. Google image is your friend.

What graphics card are you using? You should have a separate resolution/refresh rate for the TV. I think you risk damaging the TV by asking it to refresh too frequently. Settings for the TV should probably be 800x600, PAL 60Hz.
Just for clarity, can you describe all the cables and connectors currently in use?

graphics card the old Asus 9800xt, got the VIVO box u get with it

then in that the thing i bought..which on 1 side has an s video connector which is in 1 of the video in or outs..i never remember which...also on that side is white and red connectors..they appear to be just the left and right audio ones but there not plugged in as i dont know where i can put them..on the other side of that wire is a scart cable which is in the back of my tv..and thats about it

i dont know where the hell i can change the res on the tv sep from the vid card..it seems when i change the vid card res the tv one goes up too..to get the tv right i need my desktop in 1024

as for PAL im pretty sure thats 60hz..i always remember reading up about pal games and ntsc games and the different hz...pal is 60 and ntsc is 60 im pretty sure..

gah the quality is amazing looks better on tv than pc...damn this black and white crap!

No, Bloodbath is right, the TV signal is PAL @50Hz. The output signal you get from games consoles if you're not using a specificallyy PAL game is PAL @60Hz.

If you're certain the plug is an S-video (a bit like an old-style mouse-plug) and not composite (yellow plug, looks the same as the white/red ones) then there should be an output symbol on the ouptut plug. Check again. The red and white cables need to be connected via a Y-shaped composite-jack adaptor to the output jack of your sound card.

Your graphics card is Radeon-based, so make sure you have the latest Radeon drivers from ATI including Hydravision and the VIVO WDM driver. Hydravision is what lets you configure separate video displays.

If you have a digital camera and can take a few photos of the back of the gfx card, the VIVO cable and the SCART, we can check the connections if you're having trouble setting it up
