I know a few people on that course, they only accept something like 12 into first year, and now there's only 6 as far as I know as most of them moved over to general science as they found other subjects more interesting.
But then half of them are still there....
Plus they are branded as the total geeks of the science department, even science students won't hang round with them in first year.... and that's really saying something!!!!
They're almost as shunned as the double maths/maths physics students!!!!

Ah...I think i detect another computer science head.

i'm in second year Physics with astrophysics , and i'd like to set you straight on a few things, nothing. There are twenty places available in the course. They've all been filled. The last person i heard of who dropped out of the course was a classmate of mine, and she only dropped out after the summer exams. I have yet to be shunned by anyone in the science department, Finance department, engineering department, and the multitude of Arts departments for being, a geek.

I fear for my life and liver on a nightly basis, because of this lack of shunning. Indeed, it's one of the finer traditions of being an astrophysicist; getting locked off your head, and stumbling down mainstreet singing wossnames at the top of your lungs, arm in arm with who you hope are your housemates...boy do i hate being shunned.

I'm highly insulted by this insinuation. I'm a third year standard maths and statistics student, through science. I'm deeply hurt by this comment.

I don't know about third years, but us second year astrophyisicists have never been shunned.

Anyway, in response to the first post, we do the same things as General Science students do in first year, except we have a little extra stuff like class trips, and extra astrophysics lectures.

Only later does the course really differ from General Science.

But what I'll say is that I had it as my first choice on the CAO form, and I certainly don't regret it.

And Shrapnel, I think you're confusing being an Asrophysicist with being Irish. There is a pretty high proportion of non-drinkers in astrophysics compared to most courses.

Demotruk, you should just go to the Glenroyal and get laid.
Get locked, its helpful and tells prospective students tons about the course.

Look at our First year Course:

    Module EP101: Extra-Physical 101
Do fit burds and check out the local talent.

    Module EM102: Ethanol and Methanol
Get locked out yer bleedin' skull, riogh!!!

No Physics at all. Thats just bull**** that they tell losers so the geeks don't cramp our jock style.
And remember E = mc^2 is what relativity is about.
