Does anyone have one? I take it this is the AMD's 'Celeron'? Is it suitable for the latest games?

    Thanks

Dunno how suitable it is for gaming but they are generally better than the equivalent celeron.

Yer i have a 2500+ sempron in a shuttle nForce2 mobo, it's only gonna be used as a file server tho..so i couldent say what the performance would be like for gaming...prolly not great tho.

    Hi CombatCow,

Dont want to go off topic but im interested in your Shuttle system! :D
How do you find it? I mean heat, assembly, performance. Where did you get it? I wondering is it possible to build a high performance system, using a shuttle.

    Thanks

I saw some benchmarks on the sempron. It performed pretty well despite the lack of cache. It wasn't too far off the equivelent amd 64 and performed better than xp's at the same speed so it seems to be a decent budget chip.

Heh well funny you should mention that, ;) cause i stripped the shuttle of the mobo and power supply to transfer the components into a case...like a small suitcase i mean :D

I have all the parts fitted in and xp is installed on it, im just waiting to get a low profile gfx card to put in it ''hopefully tomorrow'', newhoo it has the nForce 2 Ultra mobo, the shuttle psu, 512mb of pc2700 and a 120GB Western Digital hdd......erm but to answer your question, sure you can build a hi-spec shuttle with A64 or s775 and some evan have the agp slot on the inside of the board to fit gfx cards that take up two slots, might not be shuttle but Aopen and Biostar do good cases aswell, check out http://www.sfftech.com/

Isn't the seperon just an AMD64 with the 64bit thingies disabled, and with less cache?

in other words, its a lot better then the Athlon XP series.

I thought that the Sempron was like an update on the Duron - i.e. AMD's budget CPU, like the Celeron is to the P4. Maybe Im wrong!

i did notice on www.marx-computers.com that the 2200 sepron runs at 1.5 ghz and i have an older xp 1800 that runs at 1.5 so I thought that it had to be a mistake but from what you guys are saying it could be correct info. I also have a 2600 xp that is running faster that the 2800 sepron according to the speeds that marx give, i thought with less cashe this cant be right!

The socket A semperons are pretty average but the 754's are up near the AMD 64 in performance. AMD are expected to release a truck load of them soon on sokcet 754. Basically its the same architecture as the AMD 64's except lower cache and the 64bit extensions disabled.

However I see AMD are started to go Crazy and release a AMD 64 3300 with only 256kb cache. Totally bizzare.

Yer it is basically an updated Duron, a 2800+ xp would outperform a 2800+ sempron.

    AMD Sempron Processors (SOCKET A):

    2800+ 2.0GHz
    2600+ 1.833GHz
    2500+ 1.750GHz
    2400+ 1.667GHz
    2300+ 1.583GHz
    2200+ 1.5GHz

There is only one 3100+ sempron thats Socket 754
