Hi, ok some people are annoying me about this at work and I can't figure it out. They can get accents over all the vowels except i. They just hold Alt GR and the vowel and it works, yet it wont work for i!!! Can anyone help? They're on Word 2000 and keyboard settings are on Irish.

Works find for me in Word 97 or Word 2003. What font are you using, or is the problem with all fonts. Also what OS.

You can always use Alt 161

Windows NT, times new roman, or any font. I have it set to ireland in all the input locales in regional settings and keyboard.

I've had a look at Word 2000 on a Win2K machine and seems fine. Can you try AltGR + Shift + i and see if you get a Capitalised I with a fada.

thanks, yes I Tried that, I do get the capital i fada but wont work on lower case :(

Hold down left-Alt and hit 161 on the numeric keyboard.
Alternatively, set your keyboard to US-International and make accents by combining symbols and letters, e.g. apostrohpe follwed by i will make í

the problem here seems to be more geared towards windows being so ****.
did you no that there is 133333333 mistakes in windows.
granted you will not notice them but there is actually that many.
we should all scrap windows and find a better os like linux or unix or sumthin

If you need an unusual character, you can go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map.

Although it's a bit of hassle to do this every time, just for one letter.

So what OS do you use???

We cant ditch and go linux because firstly its not pro home user and is way too hard to set up right. Secondly... there is not enough support for it.

as soon as Linux will play every windows app/game etc out there with no problems without having to install a million RPM's etc to get it working im sure it might happen.

Unless you've got something wrong in your settings, I can only guess that it's a bug in NT4. I've tried it on XP, 2000 and 98 with various versions of Word and it works every time.

Anyone out there running NT4 workstations with Word that could give it a try?

    Pat

you can play all games through linux they just need to be patched. right now i am still using windows cause i dont have enough time to set up linux on my machine but i will soon.
and sorry but who the hell uses any windows support things.
also the fact that most viruses are built to infect a windows os and not a linux 1 gives you a bit of a bonus.

    lol :D
Ummm i did not mean tech support or windows help etc. i mean general platform support!! At the moment most software companies support windows. Some like Corel have started to do linux... its a start and an upward trend but for right now linux is a techie's toy and not what people want on their shiny new sony laptop they got from christmas.

Linux is cool... but we cant all just move to it.

Oh you can play all games on Linux with a patch?? I did not know that...
