    http://82.195.131.128/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=203144

Since you are buying most of the same parts anyway, you may want to check it out, may save you money buying everything but the monitor and GFX from me..

Nice! Would probably take it except I want a PCI-express mobo/GFX for some modicum of future proofing!

    Sweet rig(lucky B*stard)
Comments - Raptor 10,000 rpm generaly the faster, the shorter the life span.
And using S-ATA i have been told is a pain in the as for the OS to install.
Also would ya consider an nVidia card with sli and a New mobo(05) with Sli really proofing it for the future. The 6800GT can be flashed easily the rumour goes,Could warrant some investigation ;)

    Nice rig.
Ah the joy of loading up that heavyweight first-person-shooter that your old machine struggled to run :)

Hmmm....don't like the sound of the SATA trouble - I wouldn't have a clue what to do if it went belly up! nVidia and SLI? Yeah, have been seriously considering it (and may even change to it). However, the boards are laughably expensive (£180+ stg!!!) and PCI-e 6800s are impossible to get hold of. From what I read in Tom's Hardware Guide, it all sounds like a bit of a useless gimmick as well. I want to make the system now (now now now!!), but may wait till the new year (as reasonably priced X800XTs aren't exactly lying around either). If so, will see how the SLI is shaping up then...

    Nice rig.

Struggled?! Try didn't have a hope of running! Ones I want to try most - Call of Duty, Far Cry and Doom3.

Im waiting another month or 2(hope d prices will lower slightly) then its a similar rig to yours for me.Dunno yet about the SLi.Intel just announced they are doing a mobo with invidia in SLi.
So im reckoning a major price.Although AMD mmmmmmmmmmm
6800's are a reasonable price in OcUK
Good luck with the rig :D

It is a fine spec :)

Maybe add in an Audigy 2 sound card and some surround speakers for the full gaming immersion. PCI-express Athlon 64 boards worth considering too (great for gaming and 64-bit ready when Windows XP 64-bit out), often keaner price/performance ratio than P4 (though nothing wrong with P4! P4 have edge on stuff like video encoding, apparently!)

    All the best,

    Dave

i wouldn't worry about Sata drives - I've never had any hassle with them - what problems and where are people hearing about them exactly?

Looks good, are you thinking of overclocking? If not you don't need pc3500 ram. You really should though. Get a 3.2 instead of a 3.4 and use the money you save to get pc4000 ram. You will get at least an D0 stepping, maybe even a new E0 so you should be able to hit at least 3.8ghz on air cooling. I never thought i'd say this but if your a serious gamer go amd. Get a 3200 winchester and some good ram. You can get those to 3800 speeds. I wouldn't worry about pci-e. Manufacturers will be releasing new cards on both agp and pci-e for at least another year or 2 so your not really future proofing by gong pci-e.

I'd get the HIS x800xt artic if you can get your hands on it. The cooling is much better than the asus model.

If your going to be overclocking don't get the thermaltake purepower butterfly. It's fine for stock speeds but when I overclock my 12v rail dips which causes instability. There are much better psu's for the same money. Try antec.

That monitor is good but jes-computer.de have a good looking 19" with a 12ms response time for 430e. Worth the extra I think.
