Insurance is a waste of money.

    1. If you have the contents of your house insured, then the computer can come under that.
    2. The One-Year guarantee should be plenty of insurance if you get a dud machine.

afaik you can get insurance at anytime but you have the one-year guarantee(can be extended to 3 and 5 year deals if my memory serves me correctly) so you're well covered

But a laptop is portable and can be brought around with you. If your laptop was taken out of your hands while you sit browsing in a hotspot enjoying a coffee or something it would hardly be covered by house insurance, would it..?

Depends on the policy. Mines covered for home use only, and thats where I use it 99% of the time. Most business policies cover laptops for more things. If you were to spill coffee over it, or you dropped it. How much would that cost???

The problem with a laptop is that if you do have a problem with the screen or the motherboard the repair bill can be massive. I have a sony and after the 1st year I can extend the warranty for 2yrs for about €260. Which sounds a lot, but any repair is likely to cost at least that much and probably a lot more. Also if you sell a latop 2nd hand, its a lot easier if it has a warranty still on it.

You can get accidental insurance on any dell laptop for an additional 150 euro on top of the 3 year cover - even if you 'accidently' drop it in 2 years 11 months, you will get the nearest replacement available (which in 3 years will probably be a lot better)

I wouldn't say warranty is a waste of time (I only buy parts with 3 years on them), but on Dell laptops it's kinda pricey...

and yeah you can buy it after point of sale, but theres a 30 day wait period before it becomes valid (to stop people buying it only when something breaks) but its pricier and it must be done during your initial warranty period.

Buy it off me - I'll give you a discount (he shamelessly vies for business!) :D
