I have the following CD/RW-DVD combo:
    HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC4481B.

Is it possible to burn DVD's with this drive or do I need to buy a seperate drive?

    Thanks.

This is just a cd burner with a dvd player aswell, to burn DRD -/+ R/RW you will need a dvd burner

this is true you need a dvd burner
    BUT

IF YOU GOT A BIG HARD DRIVE YOU CAN MOUNT IMAGES
simply use any dvd recording software and make an iso image to the hard drive

or you shrink the dvd and just take the movie out
if you pm me i can explain more or i can go through this method on this thread

recomend power dvd 5 or 6. as a player

dvd shrink or dvd decrypter to extract files from the movie

    Thanks for the replies.

Does anyone know the biggest CD-rom a CD/RW drive can take then?

700MB/80 Min is standard. 800MB/90 Min available but costly and 900MB/100 Min on the way

For video you can burn VCD or SVCDs onto CD-Rs. DivX also.

    700-800Mb Blank CD-R (or CD-RW)

90MB/100Min is already available. I found one in Spain over the summer.

I doubt my burner could handle it, though.

http://www.svp.co.uk were selling 900Mb cd-rs a while ago, pretty cheap too. No idea if they still have them in stock.

Possibly. AFAIK, you need a CD-Burner that supports overburn (a.k.a. overwrite, oversize)
If your Burner doesn't support this feature, then you can only burn 700mb of data onto the disc.

I recommend you just shell out the 70-odd quid nessecary for a DVD-Burner.

I would recommend buying a separate DVD burner. Burners are very cheap now.
