    Take a look at:

    www.hificomponents.de
    www.richersounds.ie

I've bought stuff from both of these. Hificomponents are cheaper for the more expensive stuff but have expensive delivery; Richer Sounds have cheaper delivery but the actual stuff is somewhat more expensive.

It would help if you would provide more details as to your budget/requirements. Almost all 5.1 amps will have at least one coax input (as well as optical).

Looks like a good system. I presume it has a built-in amplifier? (On pixmania, it says "Ampli - No" ) ?????
Is the Amp built into the control unit. Nice and compact if it is!

    DC.

You might be interested in one of these all-in-one systems, which are all in your price range:

    http://www.richersounds.ie/asp/Viewcategory.asp?CatID=55

Richer Sounds prices seem to have increased somewhat recently, (they are 50% more expensive for some rear speakers that I bought around 6m/1y ago!) to the extent that to bring the whole thing in under 400 with separates would seem to be difficult. I would have thought this possible previously, say 180 for the amp and 220 on front, centre and rear speakers (with no subwoofer – you would be better off with proper speakers and no sub rather than satellites with a sub). It might still be possible if you could get the amp second hand (I got a Sony 5.1 here on boards for 125 and have seen them cheaper more recently) and the speakers from another source.

What is your intended use? Music, films, games?

the logitech speakers are getting rave reviews everywhere from what i can see

    these in particular:
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002WPSBC/macintoucwebsite/104-9850191-4041546

not sure if you can get them here yet or how much they'd be. but.

    The logitech site says :

Connect the Z-680 directly to a PC sound card, Xbox™, PlayStation®2, DVD player, satellite receiver or other Dolby-ready source and get a true surround experience. You can also get 5.1 surround from a stereo input through the advanced Dolby Pro Logic® II system. Best of all, you can connect up to four audio sources simultaneously, while accessing each one at the touch of a button.

So....I reckon the must be an amp built in if you can connect it directly.

I'll be using it for movies and gaming (XBox, Game Cube)

Hi, yeah, it must have an Amp as it is putting out about 500W RMS total.

THX is just a certifcation standard from um, THX. It's the DTS and Dolby 5.1 that do the decoding part of the setup.

The reviews look good for movies and gaming. Review for musi use is more hit and miss. I guess its more subjective to personal tastes.

The z-680's are knocked down because they are being replace by z5500's which are supposed to output audio at the full DTS 24khZ or something. It is a little more powerful, costs about €100 more but my absolute favourite feature for which I could never justify the extra €100 is that the volume control dial,

    wait for it.........

    ......goes up to 11 !! :D

hahah! love it. I'm a bit of an audio nut, not mad gear but nice enough. B&W speaker etc. Some of my friends have said that the the new Logitech's get quite close, amazing for a 'computer' speaker. A lot has to do with positioning but they have enough power to deliver clarity and response at most levels.

I'm tempted my the normal 2channel Logitech Z-2300 as i don't really have a need for the 5:1 setup. Although, tempting. Anyone know who sells these here?

Check the link in the post where it's first mentioned - Pixmania. Only 13 Euro for next day delivery.

I also did a UK Froogle on these speakers and pixmaina is coming up as the cheapest

I just ordered them - thanks to all for the suggestions.

I'm really looking forward to getting these - just had my sitting room painted and a new floor put down - these will be the icing on the cake !!

Hi its John Mc here from Richer Sounds - I only wish our prices had gone up by 50% - they only ever seem to go down (some do go up tho!) we have a great Sony 5.1 receiver at £119.95 (about €175) and we have the new Pioneer VSXD514 at £149.94 (about €225) - if you add a Pioneer DV370 at £79 (about €116) you have enough for a Yamaha NSP100 5.1 speaker kit inc an active sub at £100 (about €150) - ok so it brings you just over €400 but it's a quality 5.1 pack form people you have heard of - if you give the Richer Belfast guys a bell on (01) 671 9666 (you will be redirected) they will look after you or you can browse www.richersounds.ie but the site is old and will be replaced in January so please have mercy on it - it's nearly six years old! Richer will deliver to Dublin for a €10 if you tell them you are a boards.ie member to, thanks for your time!
