LIRC and IR receivers/RCs

Has anyone ever built an IR receiver for remote control of audio/video apps within Linux? I haven't been able to find a ready-made one in the shops that isn't sold with software or hardware (e.g. Pinnacle PCTV Pro) or for exorbitant amounts and I've read that it's fairly straightforward to make one.

I suppose this is not a specific linux question, but I didn't know where to put it. Maybe Nets/Comms?

Can a mod move this to Nets/Comms or maybe hardware tweaking?

I've seen a German website that seems to do it all. Not exactly sure how cheap it is. The remote is dirt cheap but the receiver etc seems to be about 50/60/more maybe.

Will PM you the link. If anyone else wants it I'll post it here, just ask. :P

Using any standard TV remote (though not B&O - different carrier freq), about a tenner's worth of components from Peats/Maplin and a bit of soldering you can make a quick and easy serial IR reciever/controller.

There have been threads on boards about it before, so try searching first.
If that fails, or you want more info, try googling.
