SATA slow?

Have an IS7-E2, one Seagate Barracuda 80Gb disk, 1024Mb RAM, 3Ghz P4 Prescott.

I have the defaults enabled in the BIOS.

To me it seems the hard drive is a bit on the slow side: e.g. takes 30 seconds to load a Far Cry level, takes a minute or so to boot XP.

I tried to run a Sandra filesystem bench but Sandra stopped responding and I killed it after about 5 minutes (all other sandra benchmarks run fine).

Is there a similar filesystem bench out there?

Any other ideas or are these timings just normal?

Check that the drive isnt running in PIO Mode (Check in Device Manager>Primary IDE Channel)

Will re-check but pretty sure it is in UDMA mode, (the computer concerned is at home)... actually will post up all BIOS settings and sandra data tomorrow.

    Tune in then!

try running PCmark2002 it will give you a hard drive score, my 36gig raptor got about 1500 so maybe aroung 1100-1300 would sound right for your disk.

Sisoft sandra should check all your drives.

It is set at Multi Word DMA Mode 2 or Ultra DMA Mode 5 depending on whether I used Combined or Enhanced Mode for the IDE/SATA controllers on the BIOS, no PIO in sight!

Haven't had a chance to run PCMark, Sandra still dies on the Filesystem benchmark!?
