Dream Prophecies

Something really weird has been happening to me lately. I have dreams in which I'm just hanging around with friends talking normally. When I wake up I write the dream down in a copy I keep by my bed. Then, about a week or so later, I'm hanging around with friends (in the real world) and someone starts talking AND I KNOW EXACTLY, WORD FOR WORD, WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO SAY BECAUSE I'VE DREAMED IT BEFORE. Sometimes, when I'm 'scripted' to say something, I find myslef saying it because my head's spinning and I just can't stop myself. I can never interrupt someone, I just can't. It's started me thinking about fate: what if I could interrupt them, stop them from following the script? Could I, if I tried? Has anyone out there had this happen to them? Please reply.

    Or the biggest curse....

    Or the biggest curse....

Aren't we the profound one :)

Dream prophecies are cool, I get them occasionally but not nearly often enough. And it's cool when you do get to change the outcome of something, puts a rest to all those "so if you knew the future, could you change it?" debates :)

I don't think the gift of prophecy can be a curse. Even if you were "gifted" with total prophecy and knew every minute detail that was destined to happen in your life, you still don't have to stick to that path. Other than that, any advantage such as intelligence, ESP etc. that you are bestowed with in this life has to be taken with two hands.

It would be a curse if what you saw turned out to be something that sucked.. especially if it was something that cant be changed... say you dream you are in a hospital a year from now and find out you have a fatal ilness like Aids or something and you have had it for a year.. nothing you can do about it and you have extra worry... only up side is you can get pills that will help you or maybe stave it off a little..

What if you dream that the next morning 2 of your friends will be killed in seperate accidents while on holiday in different places. Best thing you can do is try call them.. what if you reach one and say "dont get in a car today" or whatever and he is fine but the other friend dies and you will always live with a what if kind of guilt..

Im not saying its not a gift, im just saying its not the greatest thing in the world and could be a curse to some people.

Aye, but you could see when you got AIDS and avoid the situation that caused you to become infected. If it was cancer or something, you could get an early diagnose and stop the tumour before it spreads.

You'll have a chance of stopping them from dying which is more than what you would have had, had you not had the foresight. :) The situation of 2 friends being in an accident same time, different places and you only being able to ring one of them is very very hypothetical to begin with. And if you've tried your best, you've tried your best. It's like saying "should I learn first aid? What if I'm in a situation where my first aid skills aren't good enough?".

It's a bit like the "talent? gift or curse?". A talent is a great gift but a curse if you don't get to use it as you're constantly plagued by the regret of wasted talent. But I think prophecy is a talent you'd always get to use.

Mothman prophecies very good film on this kind of idea -whether being able to see the future is a blessing or a curse, and can we change things when we do see them? I find it more comforting to believe that the future is not fixed and predictions do not necessarily have to come true. You have a gift which you can develop or ignore as you choose.

I get similarish things sometimes, I'd know what people are going to say or what's going to happen but I seem to have no influence over the events. Usually the "memories" I have of what's going to happen are too vague to let me, while I'm trying to remember exactly what's going to happen it just happens. I think that if we can see the future then we can't really change it. If you do change it then it wouldn't happen and you couldn't have seen it, but if you didn't see it then you couldn't stop it and it would happen. You see the paradox here.

I wonder if this is not so much prescience but something else... I mean maybe some people are just better at probability than other... the probability of certain things happening in the future if known would be like knowing the future.. not 100% but effective all the same.

Oh Stark i made sure in my post on the aids thing that it was clear you only had the future dream after it happened to you so you cant change getting it... But outside of my example then yes its a good thing to have... just some people might think it more trouble than its worth. The blame you would place on yourself for not being able to save someone might be too much. :D

Personally i think it would be great!! However short of knowing a few things will happen (of no consequence) and i only realise i knew after the event.. i dont have such a gift/curse....

The same happens to me, it happens so much now that it is a normal part of life. Be grateful you have an insight, dreams can be a way for us to obtain important messages, its our subconscious telling us about our experiences (past or future) - they can be used as guidance but you yourself have the power to make the situations into reality, depending on what outcome you feel guided by.

I've been experimenting with dream memory for the past while now. I great way to remember your dreams is to write them down as SOON as you wake - even if you remember only sketchy details, youre training your mind and will remember more the next time.

Youd be surprised what sort of messages can spring out of your dreams... great stuff most of the time.

Its been happening to me for about the last year.
I have been unable to control it properly.
Its scaring the crap outta me at the mo. Seen bad stuff. But i wouldn't
get rid of the ability. i'm completely stressed over one dream in particular. But in general all i've seen is conversations and trips about to take etc... dont fear your ability just accept it its what you are.

i dont think its as good as people make out. sure it's interesting knowing what has happened before but i find it confusing too. if you dont think about it, its scary but alright but when you do..
the thing that gets me is, if yo're dreamed something and then it happens, does that make whats happening then the past? how do you know if what you dream is even true, or real. if you dream it and it happens again, does that make it a dream aswell? just a repeat?
a few years ago, i had a terrible dream about something that was going to happen. pretty soon after it did, and i was too scared to change anything. someone important to me got hurt.
i dont think knowing that something is going to happen before it does is a gift. i dont like it. i would rather live in a day rather than having to question everything, try to figure out whats real and whats just in my head. everyone is entitiled to their own opinion, but thats mine.

A possible explaination is that people tend to repeat themselves. It's likely whatever your friend was saying you have heard him say before and have forgotten about.
