I'm in my 4th year of a software engineering degree.
A guy from a software engineering company came to talk to use during the week and he was on about, how your first job leads you to the next and the next etc.

Just wonder how hard it is to change paths say from j2EE web dev to say C++ application system programming or something completely different?
As all jobs out there need like 3+ years experience how the hell can u change the field u have picked.

I'm most comfortable with java. but I’d rather spread my wings and get a few different fields/language under my belt and not just be a master of one field/language.

So whats been yeah're experience in the industry ?

I would recommend you take what you can get. The most important thing is to accrue experience and proof of your ability. You are not three years down the road yet. Any sort of industry experience will give you an oppurtunity to demonstrate your ability, in a way that college does not really allow you to. I have gone into testing jobs and managed to get web design and programming experience in them. I have gone into a menial job and got working on database and vba in that. in other words, provided you get your foot in the door, you can open it and go where you want.
