Hi - wasnt sure where to stick this thread! i was asked to look at a Playstation 2 that blew up the other day.. When i opened it up it seems that a 1 cent coin had found its way into it and ended up burning out the component on the main board that connects to the power supply...

Looks easy enough to replace.. 2 little soldered points.. anyone ever done this before or know if replacing this little component will solve the problem?
by the way - no power getting to the machine at all...

got any pics of it - you would atleast need a new power supply but if the burning is on the motherboard it's probably shagged

No dont have a pic of it at the mo. The only burning seems to be on one of the soldered pins at the back of the board. The component in question is a little white square piece with two pins connected to the board. This conponent is connected to another connector coming from the power supply..

anyone know where i might find such components?

It wouldn't be this, would it?

No that doesnt look like it.. Look at the pick on the right on the page below. The white component up the very top right of the board...

The component itself doesnt seem to be damaged - just a little black mark on one of the pins underneath.

Do you think it might just need the fuse replacing?
