There's an option in your UserCP to turn off sigs if it annoys you that much. Or click on the person's name and select "Ignore this user". Problem solved.

It's the nerdish gamer form of "Who can climb the furthest up the tree?" or "Who's car looks the tackiest?", both otherwise known as "Who can pretend to have the biggest penis?".
Let the baby have his bottle.

Damn, I was getting all nostalgic thinking it was a thread about the game Elite...
Now there was a game you could play with 64kb or less of ram and 1.8Mz

Next trend will be who can have the lowest spec in the signature

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 583 ✭✭✭stuey

yeah i think they are trying to make up for something

maybe there lack of REAL friends

Says the person who has a broken image in his sig.

It saves me typing out my sig 5 or 6 times daily...so you can go on about penis size all you like, ur the one who brought it up...

Justifying your self is fair enough but dont make up excuses, you can cut and paste that text just as easily. Who asks about your rig 5 times a day?

Didn't realise you could turn off sigs in the CP thats a handy feature ill be using.

Its more fun to make stuff up and mess with their head.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 35,740 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

Who reads sigs more than once?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,316 ✭✭✭✭the_syco

TBH, it could be worse. It could be about football. As for the rigs, some are quite nice. My rig ain't great but, it plays some games (heck its only a 2Ghz P4), but its nice to see whats seen as a good PC these days.

let them do it if they want to. thats my new opinion

nobody asks, thats the whole point, they dont need to!!!!

Signature is there so you dont have to cut and paste the same text to posts!!!!

Ill rephrase then: Who would ask if you didn't have it in your sig?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 593 ✭✭✭davmigil

Stuey your new found tolerance has touched me, have a rep point!

Agree with syco, good for keeping up with what is 'In' these days. Mind boggles at the cost of some of these rigs, I keep thinking what you could do with that money 'in the real world'! My favourite threads are those where somebody gives their spec of their current rig, which makes mine look like a calculator and complains how poor it is and how best to spend an obscene amount of money improving it by 10%...Just jealous though, good luck to them. Wish I had those sorts of dilemmas. I suppose they spend less than I do on my crack habit :)

Just in case you are asking for a solution to a problem that involves your 3dmark scores?

I'd believe you weren't boasting if i didn't see that in your sig. Not that I care, just pointing out the contradiction.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,891 ✭✭✭Jammer

Its just generaly helpful when reading some threads, they say they're getting good performence on HL2...so u glance at the sig to see if its like urs, so u have a rough idea how it should run on ur computer.

Someone is saying their hard drive is performing well, so u look at the sig to see what kind it is so u know in future what kind to try out. Simple stuff like that, that eliminates "whats ur spec?" question on alot of threads!

    An example : http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=202685

Thats there to give a general performence figure for others to rate their setups against. Look if u have a problem with it, block it, its all the same to me.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 9,654 Mod ✭✭✭✭mayordenis

look nobody with a machine that isnt hella powerful put it in the sig its nothing to do with ease its to do with you and many othera having a nice pc,
but dont worry soon im gonna put the contents of my bank account up cause it'll be great when people see how much money i have

no really do what ya want whatever like

There is the flaw in the arguement its only usefull in some threads it has no use in this one for example. If sombody is having a problem with their HD and they dont give the make/model they desearve to be having problems. 90% of a rig could be changed wothout having much of an effect on a games preformance noticably so those off the cuff comparsions arent really valid. So in the theads where it would be usefull you could just as easily cut and paste.

But like I said I think that those images that people put in their sigs are equally (or worse) pointless. People should have the standard (USENET) 3 lines with max 80 chars per line enforced. Sigs have been getting more and more ridicuals in general (ie email ones as welll).

Sigs are the own users personality on boards, not anyone elses.T
hink iv changed mine like bout 2 dozen times and i will keep doing this to my mood and my inclination ;)

As for the lads with the spec in there sigs.Fairs fair. They put in the time effort and money. They have a right to there sig.
I dont see any of them bitchin about anyone elses sigs :p

My sig is was for when I was overclocking my PC and it saves everyone the bother of wondering what I have. I dont think its boasting anything.

Do whatever ya feel like with your signature and stop bitching about what people do with theirs

    I agree.

I have found people sigs to be a useful source of information when using the computers board. I just considered it short hand and not "my computer's better than your computer", especially since some sigs don't have computers worth boasting about ;)

Maybe I'll start putting up pictures of my wang in my sig and see how these nerds like it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,284 ✭✭✭pwd

I don't care whatsoever about hardware specs in sigs, but if any of the others who looked at this because they thought it was about the game elite could post a link to a download of the game, i would appreciate it, and attempt to give you a karma point ( although I don't I'm able to yet  )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,485 ✭✭✭✭Khannie

I must admit, I thought the thread was about the game elite as well.

    You can get it here:

I am a nerd. I admit it. In fact, I'm proud of it. I earn good money from being a nerd. More money than the average non-nerd earns. :)

Your post reminded me of the simpsons episode where martin had a "wang computers" T-Shirt on. Brilliant.

And I thought i was a huge nerd but the fact that you remembered that makes you the super nerd.

Is this thread still full of people bitching over othere peoples stupid signatures?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 807 ✭✭✭ViperVenoM

lol i think its rather pathetic bitching over peoples thread...its there own little sig and they can do what they like! :p

the only reason i do it is because on the likes of the MSI board quite a lot wont people refuse to answer your questions if you dont have a sig with your specs in as they claim they dont have an enough info...which is perfectly acceptable!

and the point about the sig doesnt have any relavance to XX% of threads..thats just..crazy, you expect people to delete there sig while they post a thread that has nothing to do with pc specs, i post in the games section and i dont intend to change my sig for that..i really dont see the fuss

im fairly nerdish but jesus sayin that kinda crap is just thick and nerds are supossed to be smart.

The number of times nerd has been said in this thread disturbs me, since when do Irish people use the word nerd so much? Too much american TV

Anyway, building computers to me is a hobby, if you build a model for example, putting it on display so others could see it is not so strange. The benfits mentioned in this thread are valid ones too.

I'd never seen it as elitism, it's commonplace on a lot of hardware (especially o/c) forums... if that's what people are into, I don't see the problem.
I don't think people with these uber PC's are going to snub or talk down to me because I've got a puny XP2600... and if they did, it'd be hilarious. ;)
Although I think for the sake of tidyness, a lot of info could easily be left out... tbh what mouse/keyboard/monitor/cd drives you have isn't really that important or interesting imo.
