Computer problem

    My computer keeps crashing during loading in HL2 and Rome : Total War
    I get a kind of siren sound from it after it crashes.
    My computer is:
    AMD XP 2500
    Abit NF7-S
    Radeon 9600XT
    Gig of TwinMOS ram
    IBM 120gig HD
    MSI DVD-RW


    Any idea what might be causing it?

    Siren sound, from the PC speaker? Might be overheating. Can you check the temps of the CPU and system (in the BIOS)?

    Ya that used to happened to me as well but the game would load, it would play for while and then it would crash. I just took the side panel off and aloud the flow of air. dont know if it was the problem but hasnt happened since. It was just after gettin a 9800 pro.

    CPU temp hovers about 42 degrees, i'll try taking off the side cover. It's really annoying me now though

    sounds to me like overheating. try memtest as well to rule out ram. give prime95 a shot as well and see if the same happens

    Stuck a better HSF on , redid the arctic silver and boom! Smooth running :)
