    http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=ie&cs=iedhs1&l=en&oc=D1146&qbc=D1146&s=dhs&sbc=iedhsrsdimen_4700_2

I ordered this for my mother, she is totally clueless about PC's so instead of driving myself mad building her a PC for €1000+ i decided to take the DELL route.

I know it's mostly cheap crap in the box, which is how they are able to offer what they do. But she got the 17" flat panel + free printer + 512MB RAM + 3 year warranty.

For what it is and what she is getting i think it's a good deal and should be able to run most everything, save for gaming...it's not like she's into fragging or anything :p

    Thoughts?

what does she want it for ??

word processing ? and a bit of photo stuff maybe ??

    scanner ?? floppy drive ...

3 year warranty's a good idea ... its pretty much overpowered I'd say .. so should be grand for next few years :)

I think you did a right thing!

I mean she probably won't be able to tell the difference between dell and custom built anyway! and Dell comes with a warranty! + all those things you listed! and less headache for you :D

*edit* error9 - she is new to computers, so what she probably will do is just browse and read email and some text stuff!

was just asking cus a scanner would be recommended in my opinion .. :) I know one of the first things my parents had wanted to do was scan in a few photo's that were pretty old...

If it gives her any hassle at least she can ring dell herself if your not around
Custom builds just aren't the right option for 90% of the population.

    lol! same here man!

dabhal, I agree with you man! most of the guys/girls here are very good with computers and just don't understand that custom built pcs are harder to maintain, and are a headache!(if you don't know what you are doing) like you said, 90%(ok, don't chase me on this one I don't know exact %" of people don't care what is put in their pc, just as long as it works and does the job!
