I have waited almost 8 weeks for my National Age Card now...

What is the normal processing time?

Thought the waiting time was around six weeks or so. Do you have the receipt from your garda station stating that the card is on its way? That way, at least you'll still be able to get into clubs n stuff without bouncers refusing you entry.

Produce one in mexico and you can pretend to be a real life Garda for the duration of your stay, it works.

Is the Age Card valid as proof of identification, ranked same as a passport? I thought it was only proof of age.

It is, but in alot of pubs/clubs its the only ID they accept!

I can't remember how long it took mine to come only that I was waiting ages. Think it could take from anything from 6 weeks to 10 weeks! Just be patient, it will arrive..... EVENTUALLY!

I don't think you can use it as a Passport for the purpose of entering other countrys, but if you go into the back arse of mexico and produce it you can play Officer On A Mission for as long as ya like..

My son applied for his on the 19th of sept. on his birthday. and today it still has not come. I rang the local station and they said there is now a 3 month waiting period.
Why oh why.. cant people be allowed to apply BEFORE they reach 18.
You are advised to apply for your old age pention a few months before you reach the age...... same thing?

i applyied for mine a day before my 18th the Garda told me to come back wen i was 18,
and as for using the receipt they give u ,it wudnt work anywhere, not even buying fags, cos there is no picture to prove it was me,

so i had to wait for my Garda ID,luckily it was only 3 weeks
    :D

Well I must admit its been a few years since I got mine, so maybe the waiting list is getting longer! I am 23 now so would have applied for it 5 years ago.

Anyway, i'm lucky now I don't need to show ID, my bald head is prove enough that I'm not underage, besides if a guy gets asked for ID at 23 there's something seriously wrong!

Mine took about 6 weeks!then i lost it a month later when i lost my wallet! Now i still use my ancient provisional which is 2 years out of date and is virtually in 2 pieces now!hehe luckily i dont get asked for id much at all!

Do they send it home to you or you pick it up on the Garda? I think, maybe they sent me a notification and that is lost in the post, and it's waiting for me on the station...

why not just ring the cop shop and ask?

they send it to your home!!! as for the receipt, what i used do was use the receipt with my college card as proof of id!!! it worked in most places

I got the Age Card yesterday!

It says on the backside, that the card cannot be used for being permitted admittance to licenced premises.. Is this really true??

Can it ONLY be used for proving your age in shops?

Not for getting into pubs and night clubs by showing you're above 18?

No, it doesn't, it says it doesn't confer the right of entry, i.e. you can still be refused entry at the staffs descretion.
