Not sure about the TV, but the remote control sockets sure look cool...
€269 does seem a bit much for an unbranded TV though, doesn't it?

A Sony one would be what, 400-500?

Not really - most TVs these days come from the same factory anyway, and just have a different badge or case applied - certainly anything under 7-800 euro will all be the same... Philips and Magnavox are the same thing, and use a company which also makes tvs for beko and others for the lower range tvs....

I suppose I just underestimated the price of a TV... I thought you'd have been able to get a 28" for about €200.OOps

I know that Sony did a 29" for about 450 about 2 years ago. Which is a great 4:3 TV. Dunno what the new ones go for. Sonys have much better and flatter screens. I'd expect this Lidl one to be the same as the cheaper Black Diamond, Philips etc.

Not totally sure but last time I checked, Philips made their own chassis (older Philips chassis were sold for use in some unbranded TV's, notably older Powerpoint brand TVs). Beko and Vestel in Turkey make many chassis for inside other "cheapo brand" TV's. The last 21" TV that Lidl had (SEG) was a rebranded Beko, though this one I'm not too sure about, it could be a Vestel. :s

Was looking in a shop today. Cheapest 28" was 299 and the TVs at that price used different screens anyway. (different shaped glass at least). No much more gets you a cheap 28" widescreen though.

I don't know, but I can tell you that there's a big difference between a good CRT and a bad one (gun alignment, mask tension/distortion, that sort of thing), and cheap/crap internal design (for example, poor power regulation will cause the picture to grow and shrink according to how bright the picture currently is) can really spoil a TV IMHO...
