Its not that it "Cant" be modded.
Its just there have been no chips designed for it yet.
The architecture is completely different so new chip designs will need to come out first.

The Matrix Infinity works fine in the Slim PS2, and has done for a few weeks.
The only trouble with the new slim PS2 now is they seem to be far from reliable.

    heres the infinity chip info

There are a lot of the slim PS2s burning themselves out, lasers etc. It might have been just a bad batch. The matrix infinity is the best chip you can get for any PS2. There are magic chips coming out with slim PS2 support VERY soon, they should be a good bit cheaper than the infinity, but with many less features too :)

The infinity has region free dvd, macrovision removal, ps2 NTSC screen fix, can boot apps from the memory card, and is UPGRADABLE.. The cheaper chips just boot game backups full stop, but then again thats all most people require ;)

All new PS2 chips will have to be installed blank to comply with the law so any of the blank chips should have more or less the same features... the new v12 ps2s are all going tits up and it's down to power issues as far as I know, it's not worth getting your v12 done by anybody until the pros have fully figured out the problem..

log onto www.ps2newz.net, you have to register to read the forums, but you will find a good deal of discussion on the new slim PS2 there.
