yeah, it sounds like I'm a being a cuntrag but it's just rteally garish next to the white, I'd just tone it down a little, it makes me not want to read the words on the page because my eyes hurt.

no not at all i appreciate any critisism ...... to be honest, i just wanted to get the site moving as its seems to have been in the pipeline forever, so i went with one of my firtst ideas ..... i think the content is more important than anything else, so when i have a good few bands listed, i'll get some more ideas together to get it looking right

    Hi,

Just read down through the list of replies and I'm intrigued.....am going to go have a look at the site now........so the orange may not have been such a bad idea.......inciting curiosity is half the battle!

I'm a singer/songwriter living in Clare....if you have any additional info you could send me that you might think I need before signing up, it would be great if you get a chance to send it to me.

    Thanks a million!!

If you wanted, you could have a musician directory too, showing available musicians, the instrument they play, the type of music they wish to play, and their location. Maybe just something for when you have a lot of time on your hands

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 405 ✭✭peepingtom

thanks for the positive feedback good to hear ...

We do have an artists directory, but an available musicians directory is a good idea (i think thats what your getting at) ... i will incorporate this into the forum when thats up and running.

all of the info you need is on the site, but if you dont have your own website/mp3's on the net/picture, its pretty ineffective .... ive had a few bands in the last few days, give me a little info on the band and thats all .... I really want to help unsigned musicians, but you really need to have more info to share. You need to put yourself in the position of a music fan browsing the artists, if they cant see or hear you, unfortunatley they leave with nothing.

I understand that musicians may not be able to afford their own site, so i offer a very affordable solution, by hosting pictures, mp3s (they dont have to by studio quality, could be live performances)etc.

you can contact me for more info if you like @ http://www.unsignedireland.com/contact.htm and i'll try to help you to my fullest capabilities.

It's slightly off topic in the sense that it's not strictly about original unsigned music, but the idea of having a directory of session musicians available in Ireland is something that is really needed. I'm a keyboard player, I get calls all the time from bands, mostly covers or tribute bands, looking for cover for a night or two. 90% of the time they get my number from a friend and start off by saying "man, keyboard players are impossible to find" etc.

Some years ago someone tried to do a little book of session musicians, the idea being a band that were stuck could look up 'guitarists' and pick someone out from the list who had the style and experience required. In this day of the interweb, the list can be thrown together very quickly and easily accessed by all.

It's maybe a little side project for you to look at, if you get it going I can spread the word among the session people I know.

Anyways, well done on the site as it is (except the orange of course), I'm just filling out the form now for New Colour Soul.

    Cheers,

    Robbie

EDIT: Where's your option in 'genres' for 'funk'? Bah!!

And to the mods: I don't mean to divert attention away from this forum! Apologies.

And the orange on the site now doesn't look too bad. Looks quite nice to me

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 405 ✭✭peepingtom

thanks for the input ...... i'll hopefully be including all suggestions as part of the forum, very shortly ...... as for the orange ...... well its all gone ... have a look and let me know what you think www.unsignedireland.com

oh ... and i'll be adding funk to the genre too ... don't know how i missed that??? .... do you want me to change new colour soul to funk?

    thanks again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,766 ✭✭✭robbie1876

Yeah, we are definitely more funk than soul, so if you could change us that would be cool.

Site looks better now alright, nice and simple. Will be great when all the sections are completed, well done.

    Robbie

Just been to your site, looks cool. Didnt get to see the orange... tho the green looks gud.

I do have to say that now it really looks a lot like our own design now.....

especially the "showcasing unsigned & independent artists"... a tad like our "supporting Independent and unsigned artists"

(in the exact same spot as ours, across the top left)

that along with the color makes us bro's now!!!!

Dont worry this is not meant to offend. Im sure you must not have been aware of our site. I just though it was very funny when I clicked on and seen the color and writing across the top.

    great minds and all that.....

We have only been up since March this year, and are only starting to build momentum now. We choose all our material, and do feature a lot of Irish peeps, but have to say that a site like yours, especially for Irish artists/groups is very much needed. We were actually thinking about something like that where they could upload stuff... whatever they want, but would be a lot of work, alongside our main site, and we would need evenb more space... at the moment we are nearly at capacity.

Do you plan on getting the space to be able to host music, pics etc.... would be great if Irish artists had one gud place like that. We will stick a link in our links section, on next update, good luck with it all.

cheers queep ... not seen your site before .... but its very good ... yep i already have the capacity to store mp3's etc ... i'm offering the site free to all artists who have their own mp3's and pics uploaded, as theres no point in duplicating work already done, as well as costs. And for artists, who dont have their own site, a service where they get their own web page, mp3's uploaded, message board. ability to upload news, and gigs ..... i understand artists are on tight budgets, so i want to offer an affordable solution ....

i'm not being smart or taking a pot shot here, but what do you expect to bring to the music scene?
there is already lots of websites that offer more:
    - cpu-records (they allow bands host mp3's, gig listings, they have a minisite thing, and a forum and charts and lots of other things, music news etc)
    - goldenplec (upload bands' mp3's, gig listings, forum, music news etc)
    - gigsmart (forum)
    - thumped (allows bands' mp3's, music news, gig listings, forum etc.)
    - irish unsigned (minisite, mp3's, forum, music news, gig listings etc)
    - cluas (mp3's, reviews, forum, gig listings, news etc)

    so what do you think?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 405 ✭✭peepingtom

ok .... so if there are so many, why did cpu bother, or cluas, or gigsmart? .... not sure who came first .... its a free service that i'm offering, a hobby if you like, and if it helps get unsigned acts noticed, then whats the problem?? .... the site is getting around 1000 hits a month...... i also offer very good value services for any artist that wants to use them, the major problem with this country, is a lack of competition, and over pricing (of almost everything) .... i just want to help change that! ....... for an unsigned band to be seen, and noticed takes a hell of a lot, so in my opinion, the more sites for unsigned bands in ireland, the better ...... it gives bands a platform to showcase their music, and gives prospective fans an opportunity to listen to new bands that they may not otherwise have had the chance to ...... another issue is sites like irishunsigned, which in principle is a great idea, but in practice is rank! .... sites which allow automatic inclusion run the risk of being filled with **** .... mine allows for screening of artists, which pretty much means everything works, and artists are shown in a positive light .... no broken links, band pcs included, mp3's a necessity, etc etc

i know what you're saying, i'm not having a go at you.
i'm just saying you'd want to be good or interesting to populate your forum.
it'll be difficult to raise yourself above other sites if you don't make an effort to be different....
    good luck with it though.
